WHAT'D YA PADDLE IN 2014

Post by Louiscov » Thu Jan 01, 2015 11:15 am

I always love the threads on what we paddled the past year so I'll go first. Please post yours.
My list is modest (as usual) but I paddled 22 days, a personal best, and got 10 new streams, giving me 70 on my quest for 100. When I joined ACC 6 years ago I had 28 so y'alls inspiration and invitations have aided immensely!!

ARKANSAS: Little Maumelle*, South Fork of Spring River* (new*); Spring River 5 days, Caddo River 2 days

LOUISIANA: Tensas River*, Chemin-a-Haute Bayou*,Bayou Bartholomew* (new*); Dorcheat Bayou,

TEXAS: Angelina River*, White Rock Creek*, West Fork Trinity River*, Clear Fork Trinity River* (new*)

MISSOURI: Warm Fork Trinity River* (new*); Jack's Fork River 5 days, Current River 2 days

target new streams for 2015: Cadron, Saline, Kings, SW Missouri area, maybe Carolina Week of Rivers

LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING ABOUT YOURS!! :beer2: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I dedicated myself to get better at boating in 2014. So I chased water a lot.

Upper and middle Ocoee: no idea on number of laps, but I put over 13,000 miles on my truck with the trips out for that river. And a new transmission for the frankenburban.
TELLICO river 15 laps
Chattooga Section IV 1lap
Tallulah gorge 1 lap
Multiply runs on the Cossatot ( lost count of laps, but I had over 35 days on the river at varying levels)
Spring River (logged almost 50 miles last summer, that I remembered to write down)
Rock Creek in Little Rock 8 runs
Arkansas River in Little Rock ( after 100 miles I quit writing it down it looks like)
Natahala 7 laps for the year
Upper Natahala: 6 laps

I visited a couple of other rivers, but I didn't write down the number of laps or miles. Only swam five different times. Which may be the lowest yearly total I've had since I got back into boating four years ago.
1@rockport
1@ 300 yards from the put-in for Chattooga Section IV
2@ Tallulah
1@ Cossatot Falls
(There may be one other one, but I can't recall it)
Here's hoping I can be off work when Richland runs this year.

Cannot wait to spend two weeks in Colorado this summer and the week in Mexico I have booked. Also looking forward to the Grand Canyon trip I'm going on in September.

My new years resolution is to keep a paddle log for the first time ever, after 22 years of boating. Next year I will have details, but off the top of my head, here goes. Lower Richland, Hailstone, Big Piney, Mulberry, Frog, Lee Creek, Buffalo, the Ford, and all three forks of the White River. Great year, full of awesome adventures with friends both old and new! -M- :yahoo:

My wife and I started boating May 24 this year since then.
We logged 48 times on the water.
22 River Trips, 2 overnights and 24 trips to the Ford. 224 total miles

Overnight trips=Buffalo "Ponca to Pruett" and Eleven Point "Canes Bluff to Riverton "
Rec Floats include - Elk, Kings ,Big Sugar, Illinois
We had a little Whitewater: Buffalo, Mulberry, Caddo, Ouachita, Frog Bayou.

We went to Surf n Turf and Rendezvous, Took our Level 4 SWRC, and was introduced to Boatball.
It was a great year for the Tracy's.
We have a lot of people to thank. First, Tom and Tracy have helped us immensely in everything.
Brian,Will and Charles, you three always seemed to be the ones at the Ford to help us.
Steve and Rob for their instruction at our SWRC. We have been more confident in the water ever since.
And Then We would like to thank the ACC as a whole and all the Fine Folks of the Northwest Chapter.
So bring on Water. :yahoo: :kayak:
My Favorite River is the one that I'm paddling.

It's been an amazing 2014 paddling year!
22 paddle days in Ecuador
A week in Mexico
A day in Italy
Plus paddled in some US states- Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, TN, NC, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas

Taught whitewater and kayak merit badges for six weeks at a Boy Scout camp, and a first time all-women's Swiftwater rescue course

Ran a solo canoe down the Cossatot and only swam half the river

Became the ACA Texas State Director

Had two friends die paddling on the river this year.

Got a new-to-me play boat and a river runner, a solo WW canoe, 2 new paddles (lost one) and helmet

Certified to teach wilderness first aid and CPR.

Highlights - new paddling friends! Old paddling friends! paddling the Santa Maria, River in Mexico and a brief but beautiful tandem canoe trip on the Buffalo

Thank you ACC - I can't wait to see what 2015 holds

2014, for me, was my second season kayaking and involved a lot of personal growth on the water:)
In 2015, I'd like to focus on technique, getting more confident with surfing, and be better with eddy-catching.

2014 for Alia:
PFDs: Lower Yough (that was my goal, yay!), Upper Yough (IK),Lower Big Sandy, Chattahoochee, Northern Branch-Potomac, Castlemann
Spent lots of days on the Upper and Lower James River
Really excited about AR boating... there is beautiful water in this state! Would also like to work up to the Ocoee or New River this year and the Cossatot.

2014 for Colt:
Unfortunately, I was in FL for 75% of 2014 BUT was able to get out on the James, Upper Yough, Chattahoochee
PFD: Cossatot
I just want to paddle more this year than last year ;)

I'm terrible at logging my trips! My work situation got in the way of paddling way too often, but I had some memorable ones this year. 2014 was really my first full year back at paddling kayak strong after having nerve trouble with my right arm.

I did the Week of Rivers with the Carolina Canoe Club in July. I had 7 straight days on different rivers or stretches of rivers including 5 straight days of PFDs (*): Nantahala, Middle Tellico* (BEEFY level!), Upper Nantahala*, Cheoah* (natural flow ELF level), Chatooga Sec 3.5*, Nolichucky*, and Upper Ocoee.

For Thanksgiving I took a very spontaneous trip to Costa Rica with Endless River Adventures and did my first international paddling on the Pejibaye, Upper Upper Pacuare, Middle Pacuare, Sarapiqui, Balsa and one other that I can't recall.

No new runs for me in AR in 2014, but LOTS of fun runs down the Cossatot (2014 was a great year for the Tot!), and a handful of others on Mulberry, Frog, Big Piney, Cadron. I think I was on Richland in January 2014 (but it could have been December), but 2014 was not a good year for Richland! (at least not for me). And, of course, a fun summer of surfs at Rockport.

I'm afraid that 2014 saw cobwebs in my canoe: might need to wash all those dust balls out of the canoe in 2015. 8)

For 2015, if conditions work out I would like to do another multi-day trip down the Buffalo. It's been a few years since the last one...time to do that again!
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.

Alia, you forgot a PFD. I was pleased to meet you and Colt for the first time on the Mulberry last October.

I didn't get in a whole lot of water time in '14 but did manage to have some fun on the usual suspects:

Buffalo (my personal fave)
Current
Eleven Point
Spring
Ouachita
Big Piney
Mulberry
Mountain Fork

May be forgetting one or two. Looking forward to making new memories with old and new friends on the water this year. :canoe: :kayak:
You come too.

Became a SWR l4 instructor , all at rockport.
Lower Richland
Hail stone
Arkansas river Colorado
Nati, N.Caralina
Lee creek
Frog - the upper & lower sections
Mulberry- at least 20 times

West fork of the white river,
Beaver lake 20 times

I'm sure I missed a few . Yet what a great 2014 on the river!
Hopefully I will be hitting more new rivers to me & a lot of the old rivers that I love so dearly.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
See ya on the water,
Rob

Felt like I didn't paddle nearly what I wanted to this year, but then when I thought about it turns out had more then I originally thought.

Got PFDs on:
Tot Falls, though I swam Whiplash
Boxely
Lower Elk
Dragover
North Fork Flambeau (WI)
Flambeau
New (VA)
White River above the lakes (I don't call it East Fork)

PFA/D (accents and decents)
Chippola (FL)
Wakulla (FL)
Wacissa (FL)
St Joseph Bay (FL)

Hit Mulberry, Frog, Clear, West Fork as many times as I could.
Learned to surf at the Ford 10-100s of trips I made there.

Good year,
kru
