Wattensaw Bayou - Sunday, Dec 7, 2014
Debbie and Jon are planning another "workday" on the Wattensaw Bayou Camp site for Sunday.
Main goal will be to put up a light pole that has been donated by Power Products, Inc, of Little Rock, where Jon Elwood works. We'll also be moving a few wheelbarrow loads of pea gravel up the hill to the tent pad area.
Date: 12/7/2014
Time: 10:30 AM (quit when you get tired, but most will go to ~3 PM, then an hour to get back to the trucks)
Place: Meeting at T-Ricks, I-40 Exit 193, aka "Hazen Exit", aka N34.8159° W91.5670°
If you're late: Go to North Access Road boat ramp, paddle downstream. N34.8654° W91.522°
Weather: Forecast says Partly Sunny with a high of 48 degrees.
Water levels - expected to be low. I think we will be able to paddle the whole way, but it is possible that we may have to drag over one or two low beaver dams.
Additional: We may need some help tugging the motorboat over those beaver dams. I may be able to ramp over them, but will be carrying some concrete to set the pole so if I'm overloaded I'll go slower to avoid tearing up the boat too much. Canoes and kayaks will have no issues of note.
Should be a fun day, come on out and join us!

RSVP not required, just show up! Work gloves may be in your own best interest unless you're just planning to heckle us.

Hey Cowper,
I was looking at the map of Wattensaw to refresh my memory. PM sent.

UPDATE: Levels have probably improved significantly.
In my original post, I said: "We may need some help tugging the motorboat over those beaver dams. I may be able to ramp over them, but will be carrying some concrete to set the pole so if I'm overloaded I'll go slower to avoid tearing up the boat too much. There is no USGS gage on Wattensaw with real-time data, but based on
1) Rainfall estimates from radar maps, and
2) Level "bumps" in Fourche Bayou and Bayou Meto, which got similar rain amounts
I believe we will had decent flow and no need to drag over beaver dams.
Weather forecast remains the same, partly sunny with a high in the upper 40's.

In response to a question I received:
N34.86930° W91.50423° Approximate location of the camp site
You can walk to it, but if you don't know a little bit about the area already, it is easier to get there by boat, and the recent rains may have created a couple of spots where you wouldn't be able to get across the creek drainages anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself yesterday, it was nice to see everyone, and nice to get out on the bayou for a short float.
I'm very impressed to see the campsite, and to see how much effort has been put into it thus far!
Best Regards
Jim

Will there be an annual New Year's Day outing this year? I've never done it and have marked "ACC" on my calendar.
