Ford Status (10/10)

Post by kayakAR » Fri Oct 10, 2014 6:02 pm

When I checked at 5:50pm Friday (10/10), the Siloam Springs Kayak Park gate was closed. I parked, and walked in to take a look.

The river is raging, covering virtually every rock feature. More importantly, a fallen tree appears to have lodged just above the first wave.

FYI.

Think I saw that tree clear the second wave as I arrived. Another went through before I figured out how to use my camera.

Charles I had to post your pictures, hope you didn't mind me using them?

Thanks Rich for the report , hopefully that tree will dislodge itself & go down stream . I didn't see it in the pictures.
See ya on the water,
Rob

Rob,

There was a LARGE tree rolling through the second wave as I arrived. I think it was the one Rich saw stuck in the top wave before. The water actually was still moving UP the sidewalk during the 15+ minutes I was there. Also, there was a flip flop stalking me...

Unfortunately, it will probably end up making our pools even shallower. That top wave lost it's 'smile' after the last flood. We'll see if it gets even flatter. :wht:

So your saying beware of the stalking flip flop? I hope you picked that flip flop up & threw it away before it stalks anyone else . :D

Looking good. Gate was still locked at 9am when this was taken, so you might hafta carry in. Water a bit cooler than yesterday, so dress warm.

I would like to know the status of the locked gate.
The city needs to know that just because they wouldn't go out there, we can and do.
I was on the Buffalo all weekend so I wasn't able to get to the Ford.
I will be interesting to see the results......

I do NOT know the status today, but the gate was locked ALL weekend. There were flash flood warnings much of the weekend, so I assume that is part of their criteria for deciding. They pull the porta-potties and lock the gate during flood warnings I've noticed. Quite a few boaters & spectators parked at the locked gate Sat & Sun and walked through.

From Siloam Springs Facebook page Saturday 10/11:

"The Siloam Springs Kayak Park has been closed since this morning because of flooding and will remain closed tomorrow as well."

10/14 - Went to the park around 8:15am and was behind the Porta-Potty trailer. They were also unlocking the gate for the first time since Friday. The guys I talked to said last night Monday [10/13], the water was almost up to the actual parking lot and had a few pictures on his phone as proof. I believed him when I saw the size of trees now resting at the fish ladder above the top feature.
