Fourche Crk Cleanup - 10/5/2014 (Update - report)

Post by Cowper » Sat Oct 04, 2014 8:26 pm

We'll be hitting Fourche Creek in Little Rock again tomorrow, Sunday.

Meeting at 11 AM at Interstate Park boat ramp
Plug N34.7082 W92.285 into google earth or the mapping program of your choice. Be aware, some programs will move these coordinates to the nearest road, so if it doesn't put you on the creek near a ball field, that's probably what happened.

I know this is very short notice, but this won't be your "standard" clean up, so if you can make it, I promise you'll find it entertaining. We'll be using pulleys, ropes, and various implements of destruction in an effort to get the boat up and floating again. If we fail, we'll at least try to get it up on the bank so we can come back later and float it after it dries out, or cut it into smaller pieces.

If you can't make 11, just find the spot, you'll see our vehicles there. Put in and start paddling upstream; you'll find us about 1.7 miles from the ramp, so it will probably take you about 45 minutes to get there.

What a good day today on the Fourche Creek!
I really enjoyed the day very much. Cowper will probably make a post later on, on the day's goals and how our our efforts went, but it did go well. Thank you Bryan, Jason, and Cowper for allowing me to come along!

Best Regards
Jim

Trip Report: Bryan Signorelli has put together a little report that I can't beat, so I'll just share that. Enjoy!

Big thanks to Debbie for helping with the scouting mission, and to Bryan, Jason, and Jim for showing up on the day of the removal.

And in case anyone is wondering, yes, I know I really need to give folks more than 14 hours notice on things like this, and will try to do better in the future! This one evolved very quickly; we got some unexpected rain that brought the creek up on Thursday, which led to a last minute decision to go on the scouting mission on Friday, before which time I had seen the boat once but had only a general idea of the location. I also needed to get a clear picture of how many shallow spots might exist between the boat's location and the take-out ramp. Then, I realized sometime during the day Saturday that if I didn't go back right away, it would be mid-November before I could get another shot at it. So once one or two folks said they might go, I shifted on the afterburners to make it happen right away.
