I hate to have to write this... some very sad news this week in the Ozark paddling community. Some of you no doubt remember Jason Bertschy (aka "Otter") from Bentonville. Jason hadn't paddled in a long time - he's been in a long fight with cancer, which finally took his life late last week. Jason was one of my best friends and one of the most incredible kayakers I've ever been around. Those lucky enough to have boated with him remember a happy-go-lucky young guy who would fire up huge, hairy drops with a smile - and often with just his homemade hand paddles. Jason was just 33 years old and leaves behind a beautiful young family: his four-year old son and the love of his life, Beth.

This is certainly sad news fish. I remember you talking about him and how great of a paddler he was. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

Did not know he had cancer.
This is a loss to the entire Ozark boating community especially those who got to paddle with
this young man. Jason was one heck of a kayaker even more of a paddling bud to hang with
Sad news
Prayers going out to his family.
Fish, prayers and good thoughts going out to you my friend
