Caddo Sat? 7/19
Caddo Sat? 7/19
Anybody want to do the Caddo tomorrow 7/19? Level is at 6'...not sure if it is rising or falling. If anyone wants to go, we can meet at 11am under the Glenwood bridge.

I've been looking at it too for tomorrow. The river looks like it has crested and is starting to fall, if by this evening it looks like it will still be around 5.70ft. by put-in time, I would like to join you all. Just me this time, I think Miss Marlo is going to give it a pass this time.

Jim,
How about we do the lower section from Glenwood to Amity. That section holds up nicely around 5.5'. I have a foster dog I'm thinking about adopting and would like to bring her on that section if nobody minds her riding on my lap in their car for the shuttle. She loves the water and we did that section once before. What do you think? Cindy

Cindy,
Dogs are always fine by me, our dog, Blackie, rides next to me in the truck every day when I take him to the doggy park here in Benton
As far as the section, I really prefer making the Caddo Gap to Glenwood section, even down to 5.60ft. if it falls that low. If it goes to 5.50ft. I too vote for the lower trip. We'll have a better idea of what it might look like by later this evening and visit more.
Best Regards

Jim,
I'll leave it up to you as to which section is best for the water level. I enjoy the upper section best too. I just need to know by 9:00am in the morning so I know which boat to pack and whether or not to pack "Tippy" (not the best name for a yakin' dog, but that's the name she came with). Hope you don't mind making that call. I can always do the Glenwood to Amity section Sun. or Mon. Thanks for the info. Cindy

Count me in if the upper section is paddled tomorrow. Not done this piece.

What time is everyone meeting and where? My son and I might be up for this trip, maybe my wife as well.

Maggie,
I'm not sure where you are coming from, but here are directions from Hot Springs:
Take hwy 70 to Glenwood. Stay on Hwy 70 until you cross over the Caddo River (past McDonalds). Take the 1st left after crossing the bridge over the Caddo (hwy 8 towards Amity). After you turn left, immediately turn left (about 40 feet after turn) and drive down under the bridge. I have a green Ford Ranger pickup truck. We park near or under the bridge. Hope to see you there!

Hi folks. What is this float like? Gina and I have never seen the Caddo. I see it is noted as 1-2, but you are talking about many different pieces of it. If it has some decent rapids, and not just paddling flat pools (not that there is anything wrong with that) we might consider it.
Re: Caddo Sat? 7/19
htharp,
Jim K. is the best person to answer, but I'll give you my 2cents. If the level holds above 5.6'-5.7', the upper section of the "Narrows" (west of Caddo Gap) to Glenwood is the most fun. This run is approx. 8 miles and is the best of the river. Class 1-2 and doesn't have too many pools to paddle. I love it! The section from Glenwood to Amity (approx. 8 miles) has many smaller riffles (class 1 like lower Buffalo) (less lively) and better scenery and fewer people. I paddled this section 7/11 at 5.5' level and didn't see anyone until takeout. I prefer the upper run, but to get "my fix", this is a nice section when the water is too low for the other "upper" section. Jim, your thoughts???
Hope you and Gina can make it.

Re: Caddo Sat? 7/19
Looking at the level this evening, I think we will have just enough water for the Caddo Gap (Narrows) to Glenwood float tomorrow. What a treat for Mid July
We will meet under the Hwy 70 Bridge at Glenwood (West Side of the bridge) about 11am tomorrow to consolidate boats and people. See you all there.
Best Regards
