Current River Info

New to the forum and relatively new to paddling. I am in Memphis and thus do a lot of outdoor activities in AR and joined this group to keep informed and possibly hook up on a few future trips.

A few of us from memphis are going to be heading up to Missouri to float the Current River and wanted to see if anyone could provide us with any info to help us plan our trip. We will have our own canoes/kayaks and vehicles to shuttle but will be looking for good put-in/take out/parking places as well as camping along the way.

Right now, we are looking at possibly putting in at Pulltite and taking out at near the Jacks Fork (approx 35 miles). We will have some kids with us (9yo, 12yo, 14yo, and a few 17yo) and felt that mileage to be good to allow them to also swim, explore caves etc.....
So any recommendations on parking/put-in at or near Pulltite, take-out/parking near Eminence, and camping along the way (we don't need a camp-ground, just a place to set tent). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pultite to Two Rivers would be a good float for you. Lots of neat stuff to see, but if you're going this time of year I'd suggest going during the week, otherwise there may be some not so neat stuff to see as well. I assume you plan to float camp? If so, there are abundant gravel bars along the way and you can camp on any that tickle your fancy and aren't already taken. As for parking, you'd just park at Pultite and Two Rivers. Once your plans have materialized be sure to post them in the Paddling Trips section unless you don't want more company.

Thanks. I am assuming by your weekday recommendation is it just a few party spots on the way down or does it get rowdy where we would not be able to find a quiet spot? Any family friendly rivers in the area that would be more suitable on the weekend, unfortunately we will not be able to float during the week.

It's pretty rowdy all the way down. You might consider Baptist Camp to Pulltite which may not be quite as bad and is just under thirty miles. If you want to try something else up there the Eleven Point and Jack's Fork are options. I've never done the Jack's Fork but I can vouch for the EP. There will be plenty of people on it but I don't think it will be as bad as the Current. Can't speak for the Jack's Fork except by reputation which is top notch. I'll PM you contact info for a guy who lives up there and paddles in the ONSR all the time. He'll have a better feel for what you can expect in the way of crowds.
