Recreation Day for People with Disabilities June 7 2014

Hey there folks! As some of you know I work with a lot of local disability service agencies, mostly as an employment coordinator assisting in helping folks find jobs. The agency that I work for also assists in helping these same folks find other ways to participate in the community. My favorite one was when I put together a raft trip down the Mulberry for some people with spinal cord injuries. They had a great time!

The reason I'm posting this is because on June 7th 2014 we'll have our 16th annual "Fun Day", where we have a party at Prairie Creek Marina on Beaver Lake for everyone in the area with any type of disability (this is a very dynamic group of around 200 people). We have a lot of volunteers and local businesses that bring their powerboats, musical equipment, BBQ grills, and all that fun stuff. I usually bring my rec boat and let people paddle around in the cove there, but it seems like there is always a line for it, and I'm busy driving a powerboat with a 3 person tube behind it so I can't provide any instruction. We thought we would invite members of the paddling community this year to let someone try out your rec boat who otherwise might never get the chance. Self-bailing rec boats are definitely recommended. If you would like to introduce someone to boating and make someones day, just let me know. The hours are 11AM-3PM, but you can come and go as you please.

I'm going to contact the Ozark Mt Trading Post and see if they'd like to bring a boat or two as they are just up the road. I'd hate to get a large group of boaters out there and not have enough people interested for you to have fun, so I'd like to get a list going for those that are interested, and we can go from there.

Our event will be on Saturday. You may have seen a commercial for it on KNWA! None of the local boat vendors were available due to other events going on, so if you want to bring your rec boat to Prairie Creek Pavilion and see some smiles, feel free to join us!
