Note: Tubing is a blast on those features. It was the only time I didn't fall over and have to do a wet exit. A nice break every few hours.

@fzburk - You hit the nail on the head just using the term "waterpark". Most of the locals [like me] I've recently talked to that are finding the park for the first time - really don't know WHAT it is. Just the word "waterpark" makes a person think of a safe, forgiving, padded artificial rock [lol - Schlitterbahn reference], safety engineered "play" area. Don't get me wrong, the Ford [I'll always call it that] river park IS a fun area to play, but it is still a river with currents, real rocks, underwater snags, and danger. Last weekend the PFD ratio was much lower than 75%, especially for kids tubing. There definitely needs to be a LOT of education/information about WHAT the park actually is for newcomers, maybe a few signs, and like Tom says - cooperation.

I was being very generous to say that 75% of the tubers\swimmers was wearing pfd's . They did respect the boaters & it was awesome to see so many wanting to take part of this new area that we all should enjoy. I also seen a few tubers\swimmers watching the boaters & liking what they saw. There will be a number of these people buying gear (pfd, helmets etc) & boats and learning the very important rules of the river with its dangers. especially the ones caught gasping for air will be buying pfds. So over all its good for new people getting into this sport . pfd float & we as people don't. Rivers or moving water isn't prejudice so when caught in the wrong place at the wrong time it will do what it wants with you . knowledge & experience is how to prepare for this . Requiring pfd\lifejackets at the water park would be a good start before any mishaps accrue. Swift water rescue training is very important to anyone that likes to swim, tube or float any river. Pfd's\lifejackets are cool ! Spread the word.
See ya on the water,

I have had great response in talking to watchers about the
Grand Opening celebration.
We will have demo boats and instructors there to help the newbies
learn and try out some boats.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but reading the AGF's regulations gives me the impression that children under 12 and under should be wearing a pfd, even in a tube. ? Falling out of a tube is not different than falling out of a boat. Just wondering. Glad you folks have a nice spot to play in this summer.
