Re: Cossatot Maiden Voyage

We have reached the maximum number of first timers for the trip at this point. If you are still interested you are welcome to contact me and I will put you on a waiting list in the order that I receive information back from you. If you are currently on the list for the trip, be aware I will not post details about the trip on the message board to avoid having first timers that have not been vetted (for lack of a better term) from showing up and overwhelming our ability to manage the group. I will begin communicating via e-mail on Monday with all the first timers that are on the list and all of the support boaters.
Thanks for a great response!

Looks like the Maiden Voyage will have water this year.

And then some! Will be interesting to see where the tot crests, tonight. Might end up being a REALLY meaty level for some first timers! Heard Mena got 7+ in today.

If we get no more rain, the Tot should be low 4's tomorrow. A nice fluffy level.

Happy for the first timers crew that the river gods have blessed you with perfect conditions.

Hope all have a safe and enjoyable event. Would be there with you if I could but need to be with family for a graduation exercise tomorrow! Got to honor the effort of the next generation getting some new credentials!

I'll be there in spirit. I'm betting no one beats me on rotations in the machine!

Cossatot Maiden Voyage goes off with minimum injuries (but plenty of video carnage). Kudos to Walter, Marcel, Tom Burroughs, Cowper, et al. Beautiful day and river. More rain on the way. Joy!

The Cossatot Maiden Voyage was a smash success yesterday. We had 15 first timers and thanks to the great support of the Arkansas Canoe Club 21 support boaters. There were also lots of support people making shuttles happen and generally monitoring our progress down the river. It seemed like every time I looked up there were someone standing in the right place to lend a hand. There were a couple of assists from boaters that were not officially part of the trip but were on the river and willing to help a fellow boater, thanks to you guys as well. The water level was near perfect as was the weather. There were lots of swims, including yours truly, but nothing more than a few bumps, and bruises were showing at the end of the day. Besides some great runs and some great swims three thing stick in my mind. First was the sense of relief that washed over Dead Dog Beach as everyone relaxed for lunch knowing they had just run the Falls and everyone was ok. Second, below Devils Hollow Falls even knowing that the hardest part of the run was over most of the first timers were playing hard and smiling big. The last item is the big one, we got to watch 15 people enjoy the Cossatot for the first time, a truly special experience for the support team.

I would like to thank the cadre of safety on the Cossatot Maiden Voyage. You all made it happen. The level was perfectly challenging for those making their first descent. I only swam 3 times, and my boat only pinned twice. Hoping there is a next time!

I had a fantastic time yesterday due to the support on the river and all of the work Walter did to make it happen. Thank you, I look forward to more paddling!
