Mullberry Apr 22-23 ?

Post by HawksEye » Sun Apr 13, 2014 7:47 pm

Hello- I've never paddled in Arkansas, but would love to check out the Mulberry if I can find some folks to paddle with. Long drive down, so I plan on camping 3 nights and paddling 2 days.
Anyone headed that way next week?

Depending on weather, water, and whatever, I might be interested in joining you. Can't commit yet, but will let you know as we get closer to the dates. (sent you some info by email)

I haven't tried that, but I'd say the answer is "yes". For example, there's a parking area / put in called Byrd's Park & Play, with easy access to Whoop & Hollar rapid. Byrd charges a fee for parking on this private property. Check with Byrd's Adventure Center 479-667-4066. They can probably point you to other play spots accessible from the road.

The Mulberry is an absolute gem. You will love it. I am planning on hitting the Mulberry next week, if water levels stay good. It will just be a day trip for me. Let us know when and where you will be. Perhaps we can meet up.

Byrds will be my destination! Thanks for the posts and... gee... drone video? too cool.
I am so excited. I've been working on my roll in 39 degree water, 40-50 degree air temps and will be super excited to head south and play in a little warmer conditions. With luck, I will be able to meet up with someone and head up river. But I do worry about making a 9 hour drive and not having anyone to paddle with... I will call them today if I get a chance

Now if only the chance of thunderstorms increases and flow pops up again...

Thanks!

I used to run the Mulberry in my solo canoe and always enjoyed some great little surf spots. Since converting to a lazy old fart open-cockpit rec boat, I've not been on it. If levels are between 2 ft and 3.5, I'd be pretty likely to go and camp and play those same dates. Above that, I'd stay swamped and bailing all day and below that, well, just too flat to be worth the trip from Little Rock.

Keep posting and let's see how all the variables play out.

Great! Another possible paddler.
My weekend plans fell apart a little and I'm scouring adverts for a used 2Fun
If I find one and have to drive a ways, I may be more likely to paddle AR wed-Thursday and possibly Friday.
I'm quite flexible next week!
