Chase, if you'd like to come have a sit in my Jefe to test the feel before you decide what you want, give me a call.

I'm 6'1" 270, and when I started looking at this side of paddling, there were few boats that I would feel comfortable in as a beginner. I wanted the remix 100, but that was not to be. the xp10 came in over 100 gallons and I liked the size of the cockpit - so that was what I got. It fits most of my paddling too. went down lower richland 3/18 at 3.5' and it did very well. One paddler said it was like a tank. another said the creek was solid 3-3+. It felt a little sluggish, but the trip leader said my paddle was too short for that boat. As far as creeking goes, this is pretty much the limit like they claim.

I had used a longer paddle on the mulberry 3/9 at 2.6, and being the first time out, I got pretty sore keeping up with the racers. this past weekend, I floated wolf pen to turner bend at 3.1 sat and sun with my longest paddle and it responded much better. The only incident was a broken skeg sat just before taking out at whoop & holler. I also cracked the hatch cover taking it off. This got me looking at creek boats again.

I've read the stomper was an attempt to marry the best of the remix with the best if the jefe.
Another article compared the stomper with the karma, recon, and the mamba.
I talked with jeremy at OOO today, and sat in a karma. I read where it might have a skirt/backband issue.

I guess my thing with the jefe is its' total displacement hull. great it its' intended environ, but not an all around boat.

I have been hearing more and more stories about broken skegs and hatches on the xp9/xp10 and is has me scared, looking to buy another boat and sell mine afterwards. Chase i would love to come check it out before i make any decisions.

Chase & Hilbili,

The hatch covers on the XPs are really pretty well-built and designed, however they can be a bit sticky sometimes, and lack much to grab when opening. Two or three years ago, one of our fellow paddlers (Edgar) made some really nifty braided cord handles about 6" long to attach to the lids, it really makes for much easier opening. Second 'trial&error' suggestion is from me; in addition to the added handle, a little 303 protectant slicked around the hatch ridge mounted on the boat, as well as the inside of the groove of the hatch cover, lets it open very much more easily. 0.2 worth :D

thanks Jim, I saw Edgar :fish: yesterday at OOO and I don't know why he did'nt mention this :poke2: as he told me about his nine :kayak: .
he was quick to point out the high cost of replacing these parts  . I then told him about the skeg we had just replaced the day before and the crack where the tab slides under at the rear :flame: .
I was looking at the karma :drool2:

I'm also a little chapped  that they redesigned the hatch without making it retrofit
