jim, I drove thru y city may 31 last yr and remember the ouachita being extremely high too - so I looked back at the caddo on 5-30 - it went from 5' to 20 ft in a couple hrs.

All of the above discussion is now out of date. On March 21, 2014, USGS readjusted the gauge at the new location to more closely match the old gauge readings. A note on their web page now reads:

DATUM CHANGE: The channel has moved to its original locations. The datum has been adjusted for this change and corrections to the datum are no longer needed.

I'm a little confused about what really happened, because their note originally read:

Because of changes in the channel this gage location was changed on 07-01-2013.

So in one note they say the channel moved, so they had to move the gauge too. That make sense. But in the second note they say the channel moved, so they just adjusted the gauge (implying the gauge was not physically moved). So did they physically move the gauge, or not? I can't tell from the way they worded the notes.

But from a boater's perspective, this is a technical detail that doesn't really doesn't matter that much. Either way, what we need to know is that the OWP levels for the Caddo (yellow, green, and blue) should now be reasonably close again.

Thank you USGS!
