Pickle Bucket Harness

Post by Crane » Tue Mar 11, 2014 2:22 pm

Some time ago, I reviewed Gamma screw open lids that can be added to a pickle bucket to make it into a water-tight, easy opening container for many river uses. The total cost is as low as $10 for a bucket and lid. Now, Connor Grant, in Seattle, has started making and selling a BUCKET HARNESS that allows the Gamma/Pickle bucket rig to be securely tied into a raft or canoe. The harness goes around the bucket several times and ties off with a cam. As part of it, there are 4 O-rings sewn into the straps. He is selling them one for $20 and 2 for $35, including shipping. I believe they will be the next step forward in pickle-bucketing!! Yes, you can probably make some as cheaply, in fact, I have spoken with TOM brown at Brown's Upholstery in Levy about making them... but, I really think we should reward the guy who put the idea together. Connor Grant's contact is grantc80@hotmail.com

I bought a five pack of Gamma Lids a year or two ago. It's a good concept, but in my case at least it didn't work out quite as intended. I've only used one, but the O ring has stretched to the point that it won't even stay on the lid. It's a shame because a five gallon bucket with Gamma Lid fits perfectly in that little nook in the Explorer's portage yoke. I should probably try another lid on another bucket, which brings me to the other reason I quit using it. The bucket broke. It could even be that the bucket is responsible for the O ring issue. I'll give it another whirl. BTW, I've seen those harnesses too and agree they're cool. Thanks for posting.

That's very kind and I'll take you up on it. Probably won't be there, but I'm sure I can make arrangements.

Hey Roger,

remember that layover day on Deso Gray when we had all those buckets of muddy water lined up
"flocculating"
on the beach?

Ahhhhh, yes, Brother Dave of the Grey Ghost fame. We flocculated lots of water in pickle buckets on that trip. :yahoo:

Are you up for another trip like that?
