Keep an eye out on the Cossastot

Post by 737driver » Wed Feb 05, 2014 6:35 am

Fellow paddlers, please do me a favor when paddling the Tot this week. Please keep an eye out for any unusual "trash" or aluminum pieces or parts that might resemble airplane parts. An active search has been ongoing since last Friday for missing AFC pilot and plane. His flight plan was to take him right down the valley of the Cossatot river. It's possible that if he had trouble, he may have tried to land on a gravel bar or in the river. Obviously an entire plane would catch your eye, but it's highly possible that we are looking only for small pieces if the landing went wrong. There are many possible outcomes with this airplane, but if he tried to put it down near the river somewhere, there could be pieces near the river. The plane was orange and white. So while you're dodging rocks, keep an eye out for plastic and aluminum or other metal pieces that could be an airplane part. If you find something, call 911 and report back to this thread please. Thank you for your vigilant effort. Be safe!!

Clay, what is the word on the satellite images? Have they been able to get those yet for everyone to look over?

Hopefully that will happen today. The clouds are starting to break here this morn. We have to have at least a partly cloudy day. The cameras will not penetrate the clouds.

We think we have it narrowed down to a 5 mile radius of mile marker 10 hwy 88. Using cell pings off buck knob mountain cell tower near opal and a mayday call heard on hwy 88.
If anyone is going hiking, this would be a great place to go, but go prepared with survival gear. It's very rugged. Please don't let me be responsible for a lost one of you.

Start with any green areas inside the radius.
