Bomber gear Hydrobomb dry pants (new model)

Post by Ouachitoff » Wed Jan 22, 2014 5:31 pm

Got Jeremy from OOO to order these for me, and I have been very impressed with them so far.

For starters, I am 5'11 165 33 waist and the Mediums fit me fine with room for my IR union suit.

These pants have an inner-tunnel and velcro cinches that are made to mate with the inner-tunnel of a dry top. Following Bomber Gear's instructions on their website, you pull down the inner-tunnels of both top and pants and then roll them together, cinching the velcro straps of the pants over the tunnels. You then put on your skirt over both and then seal the outer-layer of your dry top on top of everything. Once I did this I could feel the air bubble and knew I was air tight. I have swam both in a pool and out of my kayak in 31 degree weather on the little MO so far in these and they have kept me dry, although you have to be careful in a kayak as a tight backband can pull on the pants and loosen the seal, I discovered. The color of these in person is way darker than the gray shown on their website. They're pretty much black. I am very happy with the latex gaskets, taping, and seams. The ankle gaskets were not as hard to get in and out of as I thought they would be upon first use(still pretty hard) and the durability looks to be good, although time will tell.

All in all, I feel these were a great buy and present a good option for someone who is starting out and doesn't have enough for a dry suit and a dry top. I do however hope to have a Kokatat dry suit by the time these pants are end of life. :D

If you have any questions let me know, and thanks again to OOO for the awesome service! :twocents:

Dry socks are the only way to go.

If they make a pair with dry socks, I'm not aware of it. The ones I have, have latex ankle gaskets. I agree though about the socks, I'd much rather have the socks but I couldn't find the socks and inner tunnel on a pair of pants as affordable as the hydrobomb pants. They are essentially a stop-gap until I can afford a Kokatat suit.
