WEST GAFFORDS CREEK SOUTHWEST OF DANVILLE

Post by CAPTAIN ALEVE » Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:59 pm

In the past I have waited until I paddled a creek before posting information on it. From now on I will be posting information on the creeks I explore as soon as I have looked them over thoroughly. I am getting too old (63) to wait until I get around to paddling them before passing the word on. Younger paddlers get out a lot more often than I do. I plan to paddle each creek when my health is good and conditions are right for me.

I have hiked 5.2 miles of this 7.2 miles long Class II-II+ creek and think it is ready to be paddled. SOME HAZARDS EXIST. Full information on access and the nature of the creek can be found at

http://class2arkansas.com/west-gaffords ... eliminary/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BE SURE TO READ THE NOTES BELOW THE PICTURES IN THE REFERENCED PHOTO SET TO BE AWARE OF THE HAZARDS.

Here's one photo from the set:

LOOKING UPSTREAM AT THE BUMPS YOU CAN SEE THE GRADIENT; SEE INFORMATION NOTE BELOW by CaptainAleve, alias Mike Coogan, on Flickr

If you paddle this creek before I do, fill me in on what you encountered in the last 2 miles.

Captain A,

Keep on scouting and posting !!

I enjoy the descriptions and the photos even more.

I think you describe the class rapids well.

What interests me is you are out scouting and looking at these often not well known runs. A lot of folks talk the talk but don't do the walk!

Reminds me of all those days I spent following Fish and Dog up and down the ozarks, looking for new runs.

Scouting is good exercise and some times you hit the jackpot with a jewel of a run.

How many benjis ($100) does it take to find a good run these days. I was raised in ola(where 7 crosses 10)and I"ve traveled a couple million miles thru the ozarks and ouchitas doing construction work, and I"ve always want to do what your doing. Please keep it up! I love the beta regardless of the find.
