This guy is planning a 5000 mile rowing quest in a wooden kayak that he is building himself. It's absolutely beautiful so far! I'd love to have one!

Re: Beautiful handmade wooden kayak
Will be interesting to see how this hand made beauty handles the river.
In any event, these wooden boats are true works of art in my opinion.
No matter how it floats, it sure does look good.

Re: Beautiful handmade wooden kayak
these are very doable projects. (OK, his veneer inlays are pretty advanced).
there are great designs out there from Pygmy Kayaks and Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) for stitch and glue kits. they are surprisingly complete, you'll need to buy a few basic things like spring clamps and sand paper.
I did a Pygmy Coho Hi in about 100 hours... and i have no wood working skills. just take your time and complete each step.
I have a beauty, that's 18', glides (really fast and tracks), holds huge capacity for multiday trips on big water (great lakes) and weighs only 43 lb.
i have about $1300 in it.
if you have the space to do it and can set aside a few hours at a time... i'd recommend going for it.
and if you do have the skills for those inlays...
PM me if you have any questions.
