Mulberry River Watershed Improvement Project

Public Open House Slated on Proposed Mulberry River Access Changes

OZARK, Ark. – Ozark-St. Francis National Forest managers will host a public Open House in Ozark to discuss a proposal to improve access and reduce impacts along the popular Mulberry River in Franklin County.
The come-and-go style Open House is slated to be held Thursday, August 22 at the U of A Franklin County Ag Extension Office, 300 B Airport Road, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. All members of the public are invited to attend.
The Mulberry River was designated as a Wild and Scenic River in 1992 to ensure its free flowing condition and remarkable characteristics were protected. Since designation, recreation use along the river has grown steadily. According to forest managers, the increase in use has resulted in problems along some areas of the river corridor.
“The Open House will give us an opportunity to discuss the project proposal and answer questions people may have,” said District Ranger William Dunk. “It will be a good place to begin working together to enhance recreation on the Mulberry River in a manner that can be sustained.”
To find out more about the project, the Open House, be added to the project mailing list or receive a copy of the scoping letter contact the Boston Mountain Ranger District at (479) 667-2191.
