Buffalo in September

A buddy and I are looking at running as much as possible of the buffalo first week of September. Is the buffalo runnable in September usually or is it just weather dependent? We would be bring our own yaks from south louisiana so I would like to get as much info as possible before driving 10 hours to a dry river bed. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thee 24 mile wilderness section from rush to white river will be a go no matter what. The way it has been raining, you might be able to go from Tyler bend down. Slight chance you could put on higher but totally rain dependent at this time for that option.

So I guess a trip over 70 miles is out of the question.

Not out of the question, but definitely dependent on rainfall and temperature. If it does not rain much more and if the temperatures are in the high 90's to triple digits then the trip of 70 miles would be questionable.

If it is cooler and rains a decent amount a few more times to sustain the water levels, then you can very likely have a 70 mile float.

However, a 30 mile float from Buffalo Point to Buffalo City could be done in the time that it would take to do a 70 mile float with the only difference being a lot more explore and chill time, versus having to paddle a bunch and play less.

Count on the bottom part, and then extend your trip if the rain allows is what I would advise.

Make it a two river experience. This summer scouts did 50 miles from Rush on the Buffalo to Chesmond Ferry on the White. Put in at Rush on Monday, spent three nights on the Buffalo, fourth night at Red's Landing on the White. Took out on Friday.

Haven't really thought about the white. I'll keep that in mind.
