Final Score? ARG 1 - August 0. P.S. Debo, You Owe Me A Hug
Final Score? ARG 1 - August 0. P.S. Debo, You Owe Me A Hug
Rubber on Richland in August. The river gods must be on vacation.
Why does Debo owe me a hug you ask? Well, while Cap'n Downstream was running the shuttle with Cole, I stayed at the put in and watched the water crest at 7'. It didn't take long for me to get bored and I started picking up trash (a DP bottle, a glass bottle, a Frito sack, 7 (count 'em 7) zip lock bags and (I swear I'm not making this up) a smoked oyster container).
Anyway, as I was looking for trash I checked a big raft of swirling debris upstream of Moore bridge (it was kind of hypnotizing, in a psychedelic 60s post acid flashback kind of way).
As I was watching this 4' rotating circle of sticks, limbs, bark, etc., I saw about a 10-12" Copperhead. He looked exhausted as he crawled over that wood desperately trying to keep from getting sucked down into the whirlpool the debris was circling over. I felt sorry for the little feller, so I reached out from the bridge with a stick ( a very very very long stick), picked him up and carried him about 20' up the road and set him down.
It took him awhile, but he slithered off into the tall grass never to be seen again.
So good for me.
Oh yeah. Richland was BIG and big fun. Cap'n Downsrream and I rigged out 2 Super Pumas as rowing rigs, but Dr Dale decided he wanted to R2 so we quickly converted one Super Puma into a paddle boat. No carnage in our group (which included Cole M, gannon111, Kyle B, Tim M, Nathan, etc.), but a kwakhead in front of us separated his shoulder at Maytag (no shame at today's water level).
(Pictures of the snake to follow).

Absolutely! That hug is on my list next time I see you. Thanks for rescuing the little guy.

Snow in May, Richland in August. Glad to participate in both. First Richland run, 1978, first Richland August run, 2013. Dale said yesterday that his first August Richland run was last Thursday, and his second was yesterday. A great time on the creek.
