Snow Creek/IB 8/10

Post by Lupe » Sat Aug 10, 2013 11:36 am

Mitch and I are headed up to Snow Creek this afternoon...probably won't get there until 2pm for some afternoon fun. Gauge is broken so we don't know the level but should be there (and in fact may be HIGH).

Be prepared for possibly high water!
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.

Fun afternoon on IB bridge to bridge with Ty, Roger, Mitch and myself. CAUTION: HUGE river wide strainer just upstream of the upper bridge (bottom of Snow Creek section) which Billy Williams and Scott Wright can attest is a BEAST to portage. Based on that and the high/fast river level, we opted for the longer bridge to bridge run. Big and Brown. Nice very friendly waves at Guardrail for fluffy spins.

NOTE: THE RIVER WIDE STRAINER IS GOING TO LIKELY BE THERE FOR AWHILE AND LOOKS VERY DANGEROUS IF ANYONE PUTS IN AT SNOW CREEK AND DOESN'T NOTICE IT ON THE WAY UP RIVER. Definitely could sneak up on an unprepared paddler due to where it is and it is in FAST current. Not to be messed with!

Come winter the portage may not be so bad, but this time of year all the brush tore the guys up who walked around it. If they had it to do over, they said just park above the strainer along the dirt road and don't mess with the portage...not worth it. You can see the tree from the bridge if you walk or drive across it.

Paddling in August sure is sweet!!!!
