I live in Northeast Louisiana (Monroe) and looking to do some family tent camping over the week of Memorial Day in Arkansas. I've got 4 kids ranging in age from 10 yrs to 2 yrs and looking for a nice quiet campground to throw up a tent and play in a river or lake. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Re: Camping Recommendation
You might try Shady Lake over by Athens, AR. Not sure you're gonna find "quiet" anywhere on Memorial Day weekend. I am sure there are probably others. But I usually avoid camping on Memorial Day weekend because of the crowds. Now the weekend after Memorial Day is another matter and you can find all kinds of goodies if your floating a river.

Also think about the caddo and the camp grounds on it. Lake Greeson in the corp of engineer's campgrounds are pretty good too. Lake ouachita and the ouachita river are a bit farther but also nice.
Good luck, ty

Re: Camping Recommendation
Jeff, we are getting a slug of rain here currently, however the rest of the week looks dry and will probably allow the river levels to settle down by the weekend. If you would like to get on a fairly close river, I think you might enjoy either the Upper Caddo River near Glenwood, or the Upper Ouachita River near Mt. Ida.
There are no state or federal campgrounds on the Caddo, but several private ones. Of those, Caddo River Ranch, may be the most secluded and quiet, also the smallest. On the Ouachita, there are 'many' nice Nat. Forest campgrounds, but most are still closed to camping in the wake of the flooding further-upstream in the Ouachitas a couple of years ago that sadly took quite a few lives. There is a private campground on the Dragover section I like.If you would care to investigate further, Two Sprits LTD. Canoe Adventures.
You can look these places, and more, up on line.
Best Regards
