Opinions on what to do with a broken Remix wanted

Post by Dan Daniel » Thu May 02, 2013 3:51 pm

Hi All,
Sunday I poked a hole in my pretty blue Remix 69. Located near the right foot-area, its about 2inchs long, running length-wise/up-down. I was not the original buyer, so I have no warranty claim. Even with that fact, the good folks at Liquidlogic are offering me a deal on an empty hull, leaving it up to me to transfer the outfitting from one to the other. It's a decent deal, and under most circumstances I'd be jumping all over it, but with all the new hobbies I'm trying to get interested in, it may be several months before I can take them up on their offer... I've been told that the boat is weldable, and the BADASS outfitting is in excellent condition.
Just an FYI, I'm in love with the Remix. It's speed, stability, predictability, and comfort have led me to recommend the Remix series of boats to a wide variety of paddlers, and the one's who have followed that advice seem well pleased
So, what's the boat worth as is?
What would you do?

Dan

Dan,

I picked up a year old school Remix 79 last year from 4 Corners River Sports in Durango CO. One of my favorite spots to visit in the great state of CO.

Like you, I am happy with the design and boat. Have used the boat back east, on a middle fork trip and on the Grand Canyon till the accident. I like the feel of the boat.

If the offer of a new hull is a reasonable cost and you can swing the bucks, if it were me, I would jump on it and transfer the outfitting. You would basically have a new boat. Just paddle and not worry. It might take away from spending money on new sports but would give you a kayak that should last a long time with no more worries.

I would worry that with the repair in that foot area, any welds would be prone to breaking again just from the stress. In any event, I bet you would worry about the repair giving away on a trip.

The Remix 79 is a good all around design and worth the effort to switch outfitting I think.

Dan, I also posted this on FB, but I think the Remix would be a great hull for an introdutcion to C1. If you are interested in building a saddle for it, I'd be interested in helping. Dr. Bob is probably leaving town soon, but he has built more C1 saddles than I would care to guess, so we might be able to get his input on it.

Thanks,
Paul
