Remix XP 9/10 Hatch Question

Post by Waterman » Tue Mar 12, 2013 8:59 pm

I know I have seen this question posted on the board before, but I cannot find the thread.

My question is how to prevent the lid on the rear storage hatch of the remix xp 9/10 from sealing when closed in a way that becomes very difficult to open? I recently used the boat after storage over the winter, and it was so difficult to open that I was worried that I would break the lid from the force needed to open it. I finally was able to pry it open. Any suggestions would be appreciated. John

Some people have made a leash to help pull it open. I saw it at Rec School last year but didn't take photos.

We have lubricated the rim with 303 and that helps some.

On a related note, my hatch will suck in water from time to time. I've taken to putting the boat in the water and splashing water across the lid. This makes the hatch pull a vacuum. If I pop the vacuum before paddling, it doesn't suk water inside and it's easier to open later in the day.

Here are a couple of pictures of a pull I put on my hatch a couple of years ago. They are a survival bracelet weave from a piece of paracord.

That's what I remember seeing. I'm constantly looking for a short, stout twig to pry with. The pull cord would do the job.

Edgar was nice enough to fix Marlo up with one of his braided handles a couple of years or more ago. Between the 303 on the hatch cover and rim, and the handle, it's easy as pie to open every time.

Yep,

Edgar fixed me and the Mrs. up too. Good guy that Edgar. Wife doesn't have to get me to open her hatch now.

My GF has a Jackson Rogue with a hatch design similar to the XP and I've noticed that the hatch is much harder to open if the longitudinal centerline of the hatch is skewed from the longitudinal centerline of the boat, That may apply to the XP as well.

Brad,

Chris and I will probably never mention to our wives that they may have skewed the hatch cover  Bad Brad, Bad Brad. :poke2:

P.S. Sitting on the hatch cover at lunch, probably does seal it like King Tut's tomb, but the handle and the 303 does really help :crossed:

Best Regards
Jim

I appreciate the suggestions, and I am going to try all of the above. John
