Swiftwater Rescue Clinic - March 8,9 & 10

Post by paddledog » Fri Feb 15, 2013 5:19 pm

Well, it is time to begin the spring SWR clinics.
Our first one is planned for March 8,9 & 10.
This will be a clinic for folks that have never taken a clinic,
but have some boating/swimming skills.
This workshop deals with what to do when you are out of your boat and things aren't going well.
Everyone who travels the river finds themselves needing help on the river from time to time. Whether you’re the one rescuing or being rescued, the skills you learn in a swiftwater rescue clinic are invaluable in situations when time is of the essence.

It is a weekend full of workshops and hands on exercises.
Friday evening is a non mandatory Meet n' Greet session to get paperwork looked over,
gear checked and answer any questions you may have about the weekend.
Starting 8 am sharp on Saturday dry land workshops will start, ending somewhere around 5 pm.
Sunday will again start and 8 am and finish around 5. The last hour or so is what I consider
the best part of the weekend, it is when we run scenarios. Drills that use everything we have learned
during the weekend. If you need to leave early on Sunday that's fine, but you will miss out on the good stuff.

The classroom portion (about half) is taught at my house on the West side of Fayetteville.
The river portion is held at Fisher's Ford on the Illinois River just outside of Siloam Springs, about 25 min away.

We have accommodations for anyone who would like to stay here with us at no extra charge.
There are guest rooms or camping, showers and a kitchen available.
For those of you who live close you are welcome to leave in the evening and return in the morning,
however I never hold a class up for late arrivals. So I encourage everyone to stay here.
Mid day both days we will load up in the big truck and drive to the river together.

As for what gear you need to have and bring, there is no real answer other than bring what ya got.
The weather will dictate the clothing necessary, and there is a short list of other gear
on my website. DON'T go out and buy a bunch of gear before contacting me. We have lots of
extra stuff and you may want to go through the course to learn what to buy.
I will be speaking to each participant several times before the weekend. So contact me with questions.

More info can be found at my website here: http://www.paddledog.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cost for the clinic is $125.00
There has been a recent development with the local chapter (NWA).
There can be some reimbursement for clinic fees for members of the NWA chapter.
Check with the Prez or Treasurer for details.

If the dates don't work out for you or the clinic fills before you can commit,
I encourage you to email me with your contacts
so you can be put on the "next clinic" list and I will give you first chance at the next date.

Let's do this, you have put it off long enough.....

Must you always schedule these clinics for weekends that I have prior engagements? Just kidding. I hope to be able to take one of your classes this year.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the class. I am scheduled to dispatch ambulances that weekend. Y'all have a great time! Sorry I'm missing it!

Never enough,
If you can spare some time that would be great.
Even if it is just a day or half day.
Thanks big man,
