Re: Caddo River is High and dropping
'Good Gravey', it is flowing once again!! It has been since March since the Caddo has been at a decent level.
I have other stuff planned for today, but I'd say "go for it" if you're able. I have floated the Swinging Bridge to Glenwood trip @ 8' before, but perfer the level at about 7', which it should be shortly. If you do go, please give a report on any trees or strainers, it was all clear lst trip we made in the Spring.
Best Regards

Re: Caddo River is High and dropping
I talked to my buddy that lives out in Caddo Gap this mornin' and he suggested maybe doing the South Fork Caddo from oak grove road (just up hwy 240) down to the confluence. Just a thought. Shoot me a text if you want 501-772-6760. I may be willing to head up there. I'm gonna pack my kayak AND mountain bike up that way I'm sure to get somethig done!

Clay,
I thought about you this morning when I looked at the gulpha gauge, but it was dropping fast so I didn't text. I don't think I can tomorrow but it should be good many places if y'all get the rain we are supposed to. I'm about to head over and check out bear creek south of hollis then mountain bike on the ouachita trail. If I happen to get off work tomorrow I'll give you a call.

Re: Caddo River is High and dropping
Mitch,
Back in the 1970's, I worked in the area of Fancy Hill weekly, and tried to check out all of the South Fork between there and downstream through Hopper, and on to the confluence. So much of it was blocked with strainers, fences, and so fourth, and much of it on the upper end had a steeper and steeper gradient. I think the Oak Grove Road to the confluence run would be a nice (short run), and without some of the constrictions I saw above. My question is: where do you take out at the confluence as you mentioned? Some private land, or do you float on to Glenwood?
Best Regards
Jim

Re: Caddo River is High and dropping
Did not float today. I checked out the Caddo from the washed out bridge at the end of Calvin Road (Alpine). It didn't look worthy of the attempt.

Re: Caddo River is High and dropping
We did run the lower section( Amity, 182 to 84) of the Caddo on Sunday at good level. The river level was dropping, but not fast. A coyote jumped into the river just ahead on us. It got caught in two strainers and was even sucked under once. It made it across and was very happy to have completed its crossing. Mitch accomplished his fist off side stern squirt. Great trip warm day. BOB

I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.
