Re: New Go Pro Cam

Post by unsponsored » Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:53 am

I have checked out a few systems but do prefer the GoPros. The menu system has got better and the new app makes a whole world of difference. I like the idea of the outer case as if the case lense outer gets damaged it can be easily replaced. The only other one I would consider based on video quality is the Contour Roam +.

It's about what you want.
Do you want a waterproof camera or a waterproof case?
Do you want a G force indicator that will tell you how hard you hit off Twin Devils Falls?
Do you want a GPS tracker that shows in google maps where and when the video was shot?
Do you want a lazer pointer to activate when you push record to show you where the cam is aimed?
Do you want audio signals that tell what status the cam is in?
Do you want a cam that isn't wider that it is thick?
With waterproof remote.
Removable batteries so you can carry more than one.
Do you want to pay half the price of a Hero?

All I am saying is there are options.

Does it shoot timelaspe????

That's the contour ROAM.. Right there.

i like how the contour will GPS track your entire route. my question is will it be able to get any signal on rivers where a phone has no service?

GPS signals come from satellites whereas cell phone signals come from land based towers.

Generally, if you have an uninstructed view of the sky you should be able to have a gps signal. Narrow/deep valleys/canyons will obstruct the view of the sky.

I am guessing you are wanting to capture stills at a given increment?
editing software will do that.
Just shoot the video then you choose what stills to extract.

I am not seeing a removable battery in either the go pro or contur.

Here is a link to the newest OS cams.
check them out for features.
It seems OS invents, then the others follow....

$400 for the the 1080 p video quality of the GoPro Hero original? No thanks- don't have that kind of dough. I'd rather spend it on gas.

Also, the HD version of the Roam has to have a waterproof case- the truly waterproof only shoots 720 p.

Paddledog

If you use Stills vs Sped video your resolution will be higher which = a lot better Time Lapse Video with the gopro and any other camera out there. Sped up Video time lapse are cool but using Time lapse stills your get lot better quality!!! ( just saying)

Choices, for non-professionals:
About May, I finally jumped ship from years of using the Pentax W series (640x480) to a Panasonic TS-4 (1280x720 or 1920x1080), after I upgraded my PC from 586 to an I-7 based system with a BluRay burner. So now, instead of waiting hours for a 60 min basic DVD to compile and write, I can do the same in HD/BluRay in 20 mins, awesome. Waterproof, shockproof, GPS, instant still to video buttom (keeping me from wasting time/shots changing in the menu), and was only $230 ! I also choose Cyberlink Power Director 10 for my moviemaking/burning software. Very pleased with this basic user package.

Just a few "before you buy" comments for those average users considering this:
Plan this move out, or you may be dissatisfied or rebuying some eqpt.
A 32G SD card offers me 4 1/2 hrs at 720p, but only 1/2 hrs at 1080i, (64g ^ maybe ?) :wht:
Match your software choice with its recommend cpu/ram/video card configuration
Check on the required speed rating of the SD card for your camera
Remember, you'll only see HD resoluton if it's burned on a BluRay DVD. It offers you
25-50G of space verses only 4.7G :crossed:

Now, if it will just rain.......... :silent:

WRONG... :poke2: My ROAM 1 shoots full 1080p.. Just not at 60fps. the roam2 shoots 60fps @720p

I would take a real serious look at the 2013 OR cameras! the ATC Beats look like the best of all worlds!

Edit: P.S. the "fisheye" look is a natural symptom of a wide angle lens you want it wide when it's POV to see the boat. NO camera fit for action POV will be without it.

I'm not a video professional.. I just pla... Wait.. ;)
