For the Friday folks:

If anyone wants to carpool from Little Rock, we could meet at the back of the Petsmart/Toys R Us/Barnes & Noble parking lot on Chenal. Zach and I are planning to carpool - do any others want to join? I haven't settled on what boat I'm taking, but assuming I'm taking a kayak, I would have room for 2 more kayaks as well as Zach's C1. (If I take the canoe, I'll only have room for 1 more 'yak).

I suggest we meet at 11:30.

Later,
H

I'll be there to carpool too. I've got an XP10 so my boat takes up a little more room than some. If there is not enough space, I've got no issue driving my jeep and there would be room for 1 more boat on my ride.

Heather, I'm not sure if the play spots last longer as I was alone and only played at each one for about 5 minuets. But I put-in an hour behind the head of the release. You can judge for yourself on Friday and we can discuss it over mexican food. Mitch and I are coming in my van from Hot Springs. See you there. BOB

Luke - I'll see you and Zach at 11:30 to carpool.

If anyone else is planning to come on Friday, please post to confirm. If the three of us carpool from Little Rock and Mitch and Bob carpool from Hot Springs, we'll need to go to the put-in to offload in order to run shuttle. If others are coming, then we'll still meet at the take-out to drop a car for shuttle. Either will be just fine!

Gonna need to burn some midnight oil to get my work done to get off tomorrow! Work sucks!

I'm coming. I could haul 3 boats plus mine back up to the put in if needed.

Perfect - we'll see everyone at the take out tomorrow about 1:30 or so.

Looks like we'll nab the last really warm paddling day for awhile! Sweet!

Hey Heather - I know you already talked to Cowper, but the surfing was pretty good at the level. I just had a hard time trying to surf in the creek boat!

Tim, they never generate on weekends unfortunately. I just noticed they will be releasing all next week as well if anyone's interested.

Tim,

I've been floating this section quite a few times over the last seven years or so and they really never operate it on a scheduled basis on the weekends. We may have had one weekend day float scheduled, but I can't be sure about that. I do know the releases they have had during the week have been earlier in the day, like noon or 1p.m. for a long time, but now seem to be much later in the afternoon this year. I think the lack of weekend releases may be due to their marketing power mostly during the week.

Best Regards
Jim

Good day on the river! Despite a couple showers as we were launching, the sun came back out (more or less) and the temps stayed nice and warm. Sure was chilly offloading boats back in Little Rock tonight though! BRRRR! About a 30 degree drop from when we got of the river to when we got back to Little Rock.

Weird schedule next week...actually a little MORE than 3 generators. Weird!

Well, I've got Monday off of work, so I might just need to check it out! I think I might finally take the canoe down there for that run. I think things will get washed out, but might as well go down there and verify that!

For what it's worth: after waiting YEARS to finally run a 2 generator release again, thinking it was better than 3, I have to say actually I probably like 3 just a tad more.BUT you definitely want to stay with the front of the water at 3 for best surfing; with 2 generators, you don't need to stay at the front, and might even want to go real slow to start or not even launch right as they start generating. At 2 generators things don't get washed out (positive), but on the downside a couple nice features never quite develop. Apparently 2.5 generators might be the ideal release! :?

Nonetheless...with no other water in the state, I'll take ANY generators any time!

Thanks for the responses. I suppose the no-release on the weekend may also be for the benefit of the trout fisher persons. These electricity folks have a lot of folks to try to please, plus, do their job(generate the kilowats).
Next week sounds good to me, though, Mon/Tues will be questionable. :kayak:
Can't wait to get back in the boat again!

I had an interesting conversation yesterday with one of those fisherpersons. On other creeks yakers and fisherpersons have had minor conflicts because both wanted to be in the same place at the same time (like eddies for example). This gentleman was all excited about the upstream rockwork at the Narrows Dam, and told me he thought we would enjoy surfing the waves they created during generation flows. He was basically inviting me up to come play where they fish. (Captain Aleve posted photos of this area not too long ago.)

I asked if we wouldn't be in their way. He said no, don't worry about that - at this area, they fish only at the minimum flow and leave as soon as generation starts.

So if anyone goes next week, drop the boats off closer to the dam and give us a report!
