Re: dave reid
Don’t have a whole lot of new information, but Michelle told me this:
Preparations are moving fast to get Dave back to St. John in Tulsa. I believe he'll be admitted to the hospital here so the docs here can get a good handle on things, before they rush him off to rehab. Sounds like about all that remains is getting the actual med-flight arrangements made. Michelle thought transport could happen as early as the end of this week, but more likely it will be next week.
He’s still in a lot of pain. Got sick from the pain when they tried to keep him sitting up. The docs still don’t know for sure if he has pneumonia. But (as Cat noted) he was able to give himself a shave. And he’s concerned about the Native American in the room with him being able to get a wheelchair, and wants to help the guy get one - yet is worried about all the money they're spending boarding the dog ;-)
Michelle did get access to the ACC message board. She said she had to stop reading because she was crying from reading all of the posts for Dave. So good on you, ACC folks!
That’s it in a nutshell. Will pass on anything I else I find out as soon as I can.

In the midst of everything going on, it is no surprise that Dave's thoughts are with another person in need. Just shows the kind of guy you are Dave! Heal up quick, you're family continues to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Yeah, just off the phone with Michelle a bit ago. She said Dave will be med-flighted to Tulsa sometime tomorrow (Friday, 9/28)…woohoo! He’s headed to St. John Medical Center, and will be in Room 1046 (10 West). He be assessed by the docs, trauma team, and probably orthopedics, then they’ll put together a care plan for him.
I also received the attached message from T J Hittle, who went to visit Dave yesterday. T J, thanks for making the visit, and thanks for the message! TJ sent the photo here with his message, and I gotta say, the old man looks pretty good. Michelle said her mom told her the same thing. Still in a lot of pain, still saying some weird stuff (supposedly called someone “Monkey-Face”…he’s gonna' pay for that!), but otherwise continues to be lucid and alert.
Michelle asked that friends hold off on visits for a day or so until Dave gets settled in here at St. John. But I, for one, am tickled he’s getting back to Tulsa this quick! And Michelle can’t say enough about how helpful and responsive that St. John has been up to this point. All good stuff!

Just got a message...Dave's transfer back to Tulsa fell through. Policy doesn't cover hospital to hospital transport. More phone calls tomorrow. Nobody's happy about it.

Re: dave reid
I know he is ready to get on back to Tulsa. Hang in there bro! I know Dave has a long road ahead of him still. But from talking to a couple of people that have been there with him. He is doing better than I was expecting at this point. Man that dude is about as tough as they come.
Re: dave reid
Got this email from Mark Aldridge:
"Dave Reid has moved to Mountain Valley Rehab Hospital room 408 in Prescott Valley AZ. Here is a link to the hospital website: http://mvrrh.ernesthealth.com/contact.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dave has a private room in this beautiful new facility and the nurses are already babying him. Francine will stay with Dave for the time being. His spirits greatly improved over the past two days. His birthday is 10/6 so keep those cards coming. Mark"
Mark and Debbie Aldridge and Dave Murphy stopped by Flagstaff to see Dave on their way home from the Grand Canyon trip. They stayed to assist Francine after the air ambulance fell through. Francine told me that they were wonderful. When I talked to ther, she was in the truck with then on her way to the new facility, and she was very happy. :)

Re: dave reid
Hi, this is Michelle... David's daughter and I just want everyone to know how much I'v enjoyed reading your postings. Wow he has alot of friends. I only know a couple of you since the only time I'm around water is our pool working on my tan and if you ask David that probably dosen't count. Things change from day to day as you can tell. Some for the good and some for the bad. (NOT FLYING HIM HOME) devastating. Anyway I got the impression that he could be at Mountain Valley up to 5 weeks depending on his recovery, however with the possibility of transferrining to inpatient facility in Tulsa during that time. Hell he might love the attention and view and want to stay. The important thing is getting him the best treatment, he going to need alot of it. Sitting in that room day after day I saw the pain and I can't imagine how he did it. One doctor told me a 50 year old would not survive such injuries to a body. This will give him alot to talk about when we get his computer to him. After the inpatient rehab he will continue out patient for a time. Docs said it will take up to a year before he's back. I will try and post when I know new info, bare with me I'm also trying to keep up with my job and family but I will keep everyone informed. Now for all of you that think he will get back in the water.... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT...now you have my mom to deal with. LMAO. Once again thanks you for all the support and offering to help my family.
Re: dave reid
Just talked with Francine and the mood in Arizona is MUCH improved! She said that Dave just had a shower. He sat on a bench and did it himself!!And he's learning how to get around in a wheelchair. Being able to stay in the room with Dave makes Francine feel a lot better, too.

Michelle, thanks for the first-hand update. Guess you can see that there is a lot for Dave in the paddling community. Can only say that he one tough old bird.
I got an update on what exactly when down at Horn Rapid from a friend who was on the trip. Will hold back on details out of respect to Dave since he probably has a river yarn now that will become legend!!!!
Heal quick, my friend.

Michelle, thank you for your post.I never thought about Dave's age, figured a few years older than me(50 something),but I know as much as I hate to admit it that my body dosen't take the abuse like it used to.Good thing he wasn't 50.mjohnson wrote:Hi, this is Michelle... I really look up to your Pops, and by that I mean vantage point, from water level grabbing onto the stern of his boat. Dave pulled me out of the drink more than once. I think I speak for all the ACC clan, we can't wait to have Dave back around our campfire.mjohnson wrote:Hi, this is Michelle...
