ARG Evacuation
ARG Evacuation
Due to the forecast of heavy rains in the area, ARG is evacuating Arkansas in the morning (Fraiday, Aug. 30) for Eastern Tennessee. The traveling squad includes Cap'n Downstream & Son; Marcell "Leather Lungs" Jones et ux (Mary Victoria); James R. "Lippo," "Monkey Head," "Branson Boy," "Tulip Girl," "The Short Republican," and "The Man With No Nicknames" Mitchell and his Significant Other (Karen); and me. Others who have no idea what they're in for may be joining us there.
We will plant the ARG flag at a cabin somewhere near the Ocoee late tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, then strike the flag on Monday morning and return home.
If you're going to Ocoee this weekend we shouldn't be too hard to find - about the time we get up from the breakfast table Saturday morning Marcell's voice should be just about equal to the decibel level of Hurricane Isaac at landfall (we shudder to think what it will be like when the ARG flotilla actually runs a rapid).
P.S. to my RBF brethren (and sistren): I promise to maintain the exacting standards of whitewater excellence that have become synonymous with the letters "RBF."

Keep track of how many commercial @##$%'s you hit with oars and how many surfin' yakkers you bury under the ARG rubber.

Just be careful when carving kill marks on the rubber.

Seriously, I look forward to the trip report.
Re: ARG Evacuation
I had a brief encounter with ARG. They are super like stealth fighter pilots - one minute you see them, the next they are gone. Not to be seen again the next two days. Maybe I will sneek a peek again before Monday.
Re: ARG Evacuation
My experience with the ARG/RBF type is that I hear them long before I see them.If you don't recognize the primal grunts , mirthless laughter and other disgusting noises you can always listen for loud explosions greeted by cheers from the wannabes and the ones in the crowd who didn't get covered in hot fish fry oil.Renee H wrote:I had a brief encounter with ARG. While daylight river sightings are rare(since they seem to have the uncanny ability to time their take outs to coincide with dinnertime) they aren't unheard of.We'll take your word this time, but please (for our entertainment) try to get photographic evidence next time.
I have to assume this is a rare daytime sighting you are reporting since they are'nt nearly as hard to find as to avoid in campgrounds.
Wish I was there,Don

We saw the crew out there on the doldrums..
I was just finished crying for my mommy at flipper when the crew rolled by.

Re: ARG Evacuation
Well, just like a certain woodpecker, it seems we have several credible sightings but not yet enough hard evidence to gain 100% acceptance of the theory that ARG was present.
I myself believe I saw one or more ARG'ers. DavidBob briefly, guest member Marcell, possibly Captain Downstream but the sighting was so brief I can't be sure. There was also secondary evidence such as an extended sighting of Captain Downstream's offspring, DumpTruck, who has cleverly disquised himself as a full grown man when in my mind he is still the teenager I remember successfully (for the most part, or else there would be no nickname for life) herding cats on the Middle Fork one or two years (cough cough) ago.
Since the photos on Ocoeephotos.com could easily be faked and inserted in the photostream for a small bribe, I think we need additional photographic evidence, preferably with chain-of-custody documentation on the SD card, before we can accept that ARG was in fact present at the Ocoee this Labor Day.
