Cheoah question.

Post by Danimal » Mon Aug 27, 2012 7:25 pm

Taking my maiden voyage down the Cheoah this coming weekend. Should I take my Prijon Luv (downriver playboat) or my Prijon Embudo (high volume creeker)? Both are about 8 ft in length. I've taken several trips in the Luv down the Upper Gauley and the Arkansas with no real problems. I know there's no "real" answer to this, but I'd like to hear some opinions from those with experience on this run. Thanks. 8) Dan-o

There really is not that much play on the Cheoah, and most groups dont stop to give you time to surf where there are play spots. Most are catch on the fly. It is more like the numbers at 700-1100 than the Gauley. I have run it as much in my playboat as my creeker. And have fun every time.

I took my 5'10" Rockstar down it earlier this spring and had a blast. Jason Mellor and I got to the take out about an hour after the rest of our group... Then took my new Shiva down it in July and really had fun as well.

You can paddle it like a creek or like a play run. I usually recommend a first timer take a creekboat for the first run and decide for themselves after that.

Might see you out there if the "you know what" does not does not change my roadtrip plans.

I agree with Scott in that it's fun either way. Personally I prefer it in a creek boat though because the best part about that run is lapping the bottom section and you can do that faster in a creek boat so you can do it more times. Just a thought.
