Ocoee Labor Day trip

Post by rugger » Thu Aug 16, 2012 8:57 pm

I guess I'm just getting excited for my 1st trip out east, so I figured I'ld find out who else is going and when your leaving...

We're looking at leaving Fri evening or Sat morning...still haven't figured out where we're gonna camp yet, either. Any suggestions?

Casey

FYI- rugger is a rugby player, not the firearm :D Just thought I would clear that up

Leave Friday evening if you can to make the most of your weekend! Are you planning to boat Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning? We will be out there. There's quite a few others, but not for sure who all is going and when. Holler and maybe we can hook up. Lance and Ginger are going to Nantahala Friday if you can leave a day earlier. What's Tammy planning on running?

Casey,
Thunder Rock Campground at Ocoee pumphouse #3 is a good area if you can find a spot. It will be hard to find one since you are leaving late in the weekend. They usually fill up by Friday night, although you might get someone else who is staying there to save a spot for you. Our group isn't staying there this year so that should open up about 7 spots this year that we usually snag Thursday. LOL!

We're hoping to leave Fri evening, just depends on when I get home. I was hoping to leave Thurs, but couldn't get it off...wanted to try Ocoee Fri and maybe Cheoa on Sat, but guess I'll have to wait til next time to hit Cheoa.
She's gonna run the Nany and whatever else we can find.

Have a feelin we're gonna have to spend some time locating a campsite... :problem:

Casey, 5-6 Springfield boaters are going out there on Labor day as well. We were going out Thursday, but plans changed. So we are going out early Friday morning, and are going to try and snag a camping spot at Thunder Rock on Friday evening, so let me know, we might have room. Holler at me Jason Murrill 417-693-5133

Just got back from the Ocoee last week and we stayed at the Persimmon Creek campground...a private campground just a little ways into NC (Very short drive to the Ocoee). It's 8 bucks a person per night and the camp is extra nice including hot showers and bathrooms. Not a lot of people there either. Extra nice couple runs the place. We had about 18 people total! Wish I could hook up with the Springfield group and go again!

Wanting to know what days most of the group are going and coming back. I'd love to go but not sure how long I could be off from work.

Best to leave Friday night! Plenty of places to camp! Not sure where we are camping but it won't be hard to find a place around the ocoee! Just don't stay at the raft company's campgrounds unless your in the mood to party all night!

Would that by any chance be the old Circle J campground? Right at mile marker 4 headed east from Tn.
