Canoeing & Flyfishing
Canoeing & Flyfishing
I am looking forward to doing a lot of both this fall. Also looking forward to making new friends with similar intentions.

Cool. Where do you like to canoe and/or fly fish?
You come too.

Re: Canoeing & Flyfishing
Two of my favorite fishing floats are on the Upper Caddo River and Upper Ouachita River. Both streams have been way too low for most of the summer but if and when we get enough rain to bring them up, they can be really nice.
Float #1; Norman to Swinging Bridge on the Caddo, about 6 miles in length, my preference for water level (for fishing)
is 6ft-6.75ft. currently the gauge indicates 4.78ft...
Float #2; Dragover put-in to Dragover take-out on the Ouachita, about 3+ miles in length, my preference for water level
is 2.25ft. to 3.25ft. currently the gauge indicates 1ft...
One fine October day several years ago, my friend Wally and I caught and released more than twenty Smallmouth each on the Norman section
Best Regards
Jim

Re: Canoeing & Flyfishing
My only experience fly fishing and canoeing so far has been on Champion Lake. I love how quickly bass will hit a fly.
I have fished the Buffalo while Canoeing, but I used a spinning rig. I am fairly new to fly fishing but I love it. I am open to joining others on short trips anywhere this fall. One place I want to try in the near future is Caddo Lake.

The Buffalo is hard to beat. Another good and often overlooked fishing stream is the South Fork of the Spring. The White is beautiful and can give up large numbers of chubby trout to get your confidence up. I forget where you are, but a day float on the Little Red is worth considering if it's within a reasonable distance (I prefer the White, but that's just me).
You come too.
