I was one of the officials at the River Cities Triathlon but missed seeing Harlan among the 1200+ participants. Since there was no hydraulic on Cypress Black Bayou, we missed the chance to pull him to safety.

Impressive!

I would say that you might have needed to pull him to safety from the 'gators, but I suspect he would have just wrassled them into submission and then gone on about his business...

Hi Steve:

Harlan really proved himself Sunday and can be justifiably pleased!!!

Wish I had seen you Sunday. Will you be officiating the Eureka Springs Tri Friday or the Toad Suck Sept. 9th? If so I'll look for you. Sunday I paddled a safety kayak and paddled three swimmers back to the beach when they gave up around 150 - 200 yards out, then escorted one swimmer around the last 700 yards. It was such a struggle for her and I think she accomplished way more than those who are fast and swim easily.

Good day for hdh (Harlan). He had no trouble but of course we ALL know he gets plenty of swim time in when he paddles!!!!

Great job by Harlan.

With little training and my only swim training was out east ,4th of july ( but that's a different story)... I was Going to safety boat , but Louis gave me the " you'll be fine " speech ... After a boat to boat 880 yrd swim -time 30.00, an 18mile bike ( mountain bike w/ nobbies .the only one I saw) -time 1.11 and a cramping 5 k -time 33.00.... Total time 2.24 ( almost last ) ....... I finished!!!!!

Thanks Louis I'll never forget it!!
