OT ? Best way to scan photos for slide show

Post by GN YAKN » Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:08 am

Hello everyone,

I need to scan in a couple of hundred printed photos for a slide show. Old school black and whites, 8 x 10's, etc. every kind you can imagine!

Any suggestions for a resource in Fort Smith where this can be done efficiently and cost effectively?!?

I'm not sure what it would cost for a print/copy store to do that, but il bet it could end up costing some $$$

If you have a scanner, I'd employ some child labor quick before school starts back!

That's all I've got.

Agreed. Would love to farm out this tedious task. Guess the best way is to scan each photo, edit and save to disc.

Local photo shop will allow you to do it on their equipment for $0.39 per shot.

Will suck it up and get busy!

For what you'll end up paying the photo shop you can buy a scanner:

Dang. 39 cents a copy and I'll bet that doesn't count the edit. It must cost almost a dollar of they actually did it.

I was thinking 8 cents, but I haven't been in a print store in over a decade.

If you have a DSLR, 100mm Macro lens, light table, copy of Photoshop, and a MacBookPro, you can do it for free*!

Hmmmm...... three grand in equipment and you can do it for free.....

Dave,
I have the scanning equipment and editing software,
If you would rather sit here and have an adult beverage while
you scan you are more than welcome. I think a photo would
go through the auto form feed but I have never tried.
The cost is better but it still sucks to do...

Let me know how I can help.

Found a scanner at work that I can use. Comparable to the one at the photo shop.

Looks like it will be an after-hours project for Moi!

Thanks for the input, now if I can find a poor Coed looking for some cash!

Dave
please update when you will be standing on the sidewalk at UAFS asking young ladies if they will take money to look at your photos.

Good one Prophet, couldn't have done better myself.I think Dave should have started a fresh topic for his second problem, maybe on a more appropriate message board.

I've got an HP scanner (HP Office Jet Pro 8500) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prod ... ct=3752456" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It will scan multiple photos at once. You place as many photos as you can fit on the glass, and the software automatically makes each photo a separate image. Be sure to leave a little space between photos because sometimes it can't distinguish the separations.

Maybe you can find one of these at the school. BTW, if you decide to get one or one similar, it is a great printer with a document feeder on top - I don't fax anymore, just put the docs in the feeder, scan to pdf, then email.
