Dagger Prophet OC-1

Post by Tim Eubanks » Mon Jul 09, 2012 1:50 pm

Used, obviously, but has lots of life left. Has a minicell pedestal saddle. Pics available on request, boat in Little Rock: $300. This is a classic creeker made from old-school Royalex.

Hey Tim,

I am very interested in your boat. Can you post pictures, or how do we get in touch. Can't remember how to PM.

Thanks,
David Smith

Dave has first right-of-refusal. Get in line.

Grant,
No virgins left in my garage. The virgin "Prophet" that once hung in my stable has been gone since the mid 90's. Since then it has been sold and re-purchased at least once by another Smith clan. Not to mention several miles down the creek. I'm sure they were gentle on her.

George,
Were the rumors of "Shaman" un-true? Can a "Prophet" and a "Shaman" co-exist?

How many "Prophets" could be sold if we could get our hands on that mold and found a willing former? Plus several thousand dollars worth of Spartech "Royalex" sheet.

Many seek the virgin "Prohpet". Come out where ever you are!

Have a good day.

I was thinking I could put the Shaman inside the Prophet and have the perfect tandem boat... or at least ONE I could paddle!

This high water is killing me-

The way I had my Mad River Courier shipped to me last year was by going to Uship.com to solicit shipping bids by stating what I was willing to pay to have it shipped safely from where to here, and then be loose on the timing. Independent truckers use the site to find loads to fill them up and they and you both pay a fee for this "blind dating service". You are not allowed to contact the shipper directly until you have accepted their bid, so state your needs as specifically as you can as you will be committed to it. Read the fine print and do not accept any bid unless you agree to everything. Cancelling a contract will cost you.

Worked for me and my Courier got here without a scratch from Salem, Oregon for a total of $267.13, although it did take three months in several stages, all with the same shipper, due to breakdowns and a death in his family. To his credit, all stops were in air conditioned bonded warehouses due to the mixed load of antiques the canoe was being shipped with. Next lowest quote i had received was over $500 more when you added up all the fees.

I have also used Southeastern Freight lines and Yellow Freight lines in the past to safely ship 2 sea kayaks from Nantucket Island, Massachusetts to Liberty. North Carolina and they did this in about a week both times. The "trick" is in using a method called "code 400" or "slip sheeting", where the boat is wrapped from end to end in a cover of heavy gauge plastic sheeting, sealed shut with duct tape leaving grab loops exposed for handleing, and then taping duplicate copies of the shipping documents on both ends and delivering it to the nearest shipping terminal for the lowest rates and picking it up at the closest terminal as well. This lets the trucker put the boat on top of his load where they normally prefer to put large bulky odd shaped but not too heavy loads., and where it is more likely NOT to receive damage. Some companies will let you specify "top of load ONLY" without charge, but others charge for this. Truckers I used said that they always put single slip sheeted boats on top as it was easier for them, but I have heard horror stories from several boat dealers telling of boats being routinely destroyed in shipping. This was over 10 years ago when everything was cheaper including fuel, but the charges then were $125 one way for TWO boats. Ask lots of questions when you go by the freight office to get the quote and check multiple freight lines asking for the cheapest "method". Asking over a phone got me answers that were all over the board and which other truck lines would not honor. You might have better luck via a computer for the quote, but I did not when I have tried. Be prepared to find that rates constantly change and whomever was the cheapest this week, may not be next week or even tomorrow. Day of week may make a difference as well. Know your exact dimensions and "packaged" weight before you get quotes. This method would depend on the sellers wrapping the boat AND delivering it to a freight terminal.

Lot of typing for me having one arm in a sling bound to my waist in a brace (first week after rotator cuff surgery on Tuesday). Send me a PM with your phone number in it if you want to talk and I will send you mine for you to call.

Personally, I'd rather give beer and gas money to some other boater coming back here from near there and willing to detour. That's the reason I asked last week if anyone was coming back from out west, but that boat got sold before I got an answer. I have to make a trip to Georgia but it is a long ways off after I am re-hab-ed from the shoulder and Susan will be pushing me to fly rather than drive. I'm riding to Kansas City tomorrow as a "buying buddy" to "look" at a boat and have done that a dozen times. Sometimes it is a good idea to have someone along to talk reality, navigate, or just feed CD's in the player. Got any relatives or friends near there?
