Boatball: Confessing My Sins

Post by wiredforsound » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:05 am

Being a bonafide boatball junkie it seems every year at about this point into the season I've worked myself into a frenzie and my style of play becomes ...well, sloppy and I tend to forget some of the basic tenets of the game.

So after taking time to re-review the "boatball bible" (link here: http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/Defaul ... eId=655904" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) I've listed the "sins" (excerpts from the "bible") I've committed against my fellow boatball comrades & am now asking your forgiveness and that you help in holding me accountable for my play.

Mauling:
"No "mauling." Mauling is interpreted by the nature of your particular group. This would be analogous to "personal fouls." Common sense and good sportsmanship are the keys here. "

Bad Blocking Technique:
"Blocking should be done on the ball, not on hands."

Spearing:
"players should avoid amidships collisions, which could result in spearing."

Grabbing:
"No "grabbing". Pushing off another boat or paddle with the hands is okay...just do not "grab" skirts, loops, paddles etc. This would be analogous to "holding" in football." (I believe body parts would also be relevant here.)

Paddle Throwing:
"No paddle throwing." (My play even came to this point last week. :NoNo: )

Hammering:
"Players should know and consider the paddling skill levels of others. Excellent paddlers are more aggressive with other expert paddlers and lay off beginners."

If any of my fellow players are also struggling with any of these maybe we can become accountability partners. :hammer2: :hammer2:

Are you just trying to kill the fun we've been having this year?? :myday"

Or are we venturing too far from the acceptable "bylaws"?

Jeff, I am partly to blame for your transgressions against our fellow boatball compadres. The usual involves us beating the crap out of one another thereby sparing others from these "infringments" on the rules. I will be back very soon! :box: :myday"

Man, sad to see that things have really gone downhill. Back when I was playing with the Team Stupid folks, we didn't allow any "mauling" or "grabbing" to soil the pure spirit of boatball. Sure there may have been quite a bit of spearing, paddle beating, helmet chucking, PFD choking, gunwale grabbing, chest impaling, name calling, kidney punching, covert drain-plug removing, skirt popping/sinking, mud smearing, and reverse-hand-of-godding.... but that was all in good fun.

Hmmm...the fact that you've been missing in action, Victor's taken early retirement and even last week I ended up on the same team with Levi could explain a lot. Nothing like being able to spread the blame for my transgressions. Thanks Steven. :hammer2: :hammer2:

Obviously you need to return to boatball sooner rather than later while there's still time to save me.
