Introduction

Post by Jcyarbrough » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:56 pm

I didn't see a new member topic area, so I am doing my introduction here if that is ok. My name is James, and I just joined ACC central chapter. I am from the Malvern area, have a wife that is very supportive and understanding of my many hobbies (especially understanding and forgiving of me wanting to put a big ugly rack on the car), and a 3 year old son who is more than a handfull, and has shown quite an interest in boats already. My boat of choice is a Perception Carolina 14, which you should be able to easily spot on lakes Catherine, Ouachita, and Degray this summer due to it being bright tangerene. I look forward to talking with you all and being a part of the Arkansas canoe/kayak community. Also definitely looking forward to surf n turf, and hope, to see you all there.

Welcome aboard JC. My girls and I are often on Catherine in a party barge. I'll look for you next time. When we were there last I was really pleased to see how busy that new RV park was. I know they've been working hard on it and I was concerned they wouldn't make it, but if that weekend was any indication hopefully they'll do pretty well. There were a bunch of folks paddling rental SUPs and SOTs which was neat. We might have to make the trek up to the halloween party this year. Looks like a good time, and I'd love for my daughter to meet some paddlers her age.
You come too.

Don't wait for Surf and Turf! As a Malvern resident, you should hang at the Ouachita River Whitewater park during at least some of your free time, and join one of the many floats from Remmel to Rockport that will likely occur on multiple Saturdays and Sundays all summer. Some of the downriver floats will be posted on this board, often in the last 24 hours before they happen. Others will just happen with folks that meet at the Park around 11 AM. You’ll meet many new folks who share a love of paddling. You probably know this already, but the downriver float is completely appropriate for a Carolina 14, and there are good lines at the ledge that are also just fine for a long boat, although it may help to have someone point the way if it is your first time. And there’s always good fellowship on the sidewalk overlooking the ledge. Stop by for some of that even if you don’t have time to float. (You may have to start the conversation, but you won’t have to work to keep it going.)

Welcome to the club.It is my understanding that the newbies provide the liquid refreshments for the events. :beer2:

Welcome aboard. Come on up the Central Chapter meeting on the 25th in Little Rock, at the Oyster Bar (Markham). Meet the crew and have a brew (or not). If you can drive it with a paddle.....what rhymes with "paddle"?

Wow, there are rules?

Whether you're formal about it or not, any introduction here will be met with a lot of enthusiastic folks who like to have fun on the water in little funny boats. Welcome!
