Night fishing on Lake Monticello
The weather is perfect for night fishing right now, calm water and cool nights. The fish have been a little slow but just being out there makes the trip worthwhile. Here are a few pics from my trip. Had the lake all to myself…no complaints.

Yes you need a flash light or small lantern in the boat to alert other boaters of your location. I carry a headlamp, a battery powered lantern secured to pvc hung 3 feet above my head, and 2 flash lights. However, nothing has to be on...I don't use my lights unless I need them....I use the lantern when crossing the main lake/open water and always have a flashlight ready to use just in case I need to spotlight a boat.

Re: Night fishing on Lake Monticello
I used to enjoy going to Monticello from time to time. Caught some purty nice ones in standing timber in coves on a little Texas rigged centipede or black and blue jig. See one example below. I went a couple years ago and the following wakes from the 21' bass boats were so constant and violent they washed my favorite pocketknife off the deck of my boat. Haven't been back since.

It can get bad...I've only been the last few yrs but it's worth it b/c it's so much fun to catch a big bass in a kayak. I never go in the spring. There usually aren't many people on it at night...and they don't run 70 mph at night. Last week I only saw 5 boats at 6 and none after 845.

I'll have to get back over there some time at night. They really should impose a hp limit on that lake. It's just not that big, and it's full of pole timber.
