Re: SUP RBF
I can't imagine that even I would be stoopid enough to disagree with anything George has to say about the RBF, ARG, survival techniques on the treacherous Poonanny Run (the RBF's favorite stretch of hazardous whitewater (Redding to Turner Bend)), proper safety procedures for the handling of fissionable material, or other trivialities.George Locke wrote:If you are posting about The Red Boat Fleet, they are a bunch of washed up Nerdowells ... But, before I slink away in shame while making the shape of an L on my forehead, I will add a few thoughts.
It was just a couple of weeks ago that several of us put in at Campbell Cemetery, and Cap'n Downstream (a perennial RBF wannabe) and I did a little reminiscing about a trip years ago when Kenny was a frequent victim of the dreaded Attack Willows of the Lower Mulberry.
But now Kenny, my brutha by a different mutha, is on the D.L. and has been for a couple of years (surprisingly, most of his acute medical issues are physical, not mental). Consequently the RBF World Headquarters and Tora Bora Firing Range and Proving Grounds for Hand Launched Incendiary Devices has become a triage center and cocktail lounge (a/k/a Mongogh's Pillow Humping Hide-A-Way).
If two words ever did belong together in the same sentence, they are "Hal" and "girliey."
Satch is still trying to become respectable.
The Whirlpool death spiral has most of everybody else curled up in the fetal position, sucking their thumbs.
I occasionally still get in a big red whitewater canoe but stick mostly to the Pointer Pride Super Puma (or something bigger if headed west (Idaho or Arizona) or east (The Gauley).
And, quoting Sheriff Bart (the official favorite Mel Brook's movie character of the RBF), "To speak the plain truth, it's getting pretty damn dull around here." (Thank you ACC message board Nazis.)
P.S. to Geo. I believe you meant to say ne'er-do-well, but I think Nerdowells is even better (and if its not already a word it oughta be). Can I steal it from you?

Re: SUP RBF
The RBF hobbled by decrepitude... Team Stupid overrun by infants, toddlers, and little league sports competitions... The Crack-Of-Noon Gang overtaken by apathy, lethargy, and high gas prices... Dogs and cats paddling tandem together...
It's the passing of an era is what it is. The Golden Age of Crash and Burn for Arkansas paddling is giving way to young, mostly high, dudes who have actual, real skills and extremely hi-res video cameras with which to film themselves doing laps around their elders.
Pour one out for our old-school homies.

Re: SUP RBF
recently encountered an RBF member on the Mulberry paddling a red canoe, so they're out there. they're hard to catch though, as his planned run was from Campbells to Campbells, showing they're still innovators in how to do things the easy way. i think all our different colored boats made him a little leery as he would only give his name as smith.

Re: SUP RBF
The passing of several truly interesting bands of river buds
as
mentioned by DavidBob and Fish.
Brought together by their love of Arkansas creek runs and cheap
beer and/or cheaper cigars.
Left out was the equally fun loving group known as the
"No Goods" a maggot based group mostly out of Fayettenam but with a couple of us white haired okies included as weather watchers to alert the rest of the bunch when rain was hitting T Town headed east.
Doggone it, I miss those folks.
I also miss that laid back bunch of Ft Smithers "crack of noon" no matter how much time I overslept here in Tulsa, I could always find a crack of noon group getting loaded by the time I reached the AR line on I-40.
Sigh..........

DaveBob;
Sorry to hear the disbanding of the RBF(Real Boat FLeet)has caused you to have to go to to Little Rock to find work. From what I've seen you should'nt have a problem finding clients in central area.
I'll have to check to be sure but I think I may have set a message board record for having my first response to a post deleted by the moderator.
Can't say I blame him (or her)considering the post.I did'nt get to see what was deleted.Don't think I want to.

WE are still here, lurking, waiting, healing.
Waiting on that bionic hip for Kenny, waiting on that advance tech L5 disc for Satch.
And when the time comes? Where gona bring Hell with us...

From Campbell's to Campbell's via Hamm Falls, no doubt. That's got to be Dave Smith (Ft Smith)
Yeah, we are still around. Although SOME of us are paddling more than others. See ya'll at Canoe School. Campsite #5. Same as always.

Re: SUP RBF
The RBF may be old. :myday" But, there is a new line of future RBFers on the horizon line.
Introducing my daughter, Cheyenne Smith to her first class this year at Canoe School.

Re: SUP RBF
Glad to hear Cheyenne is taking a class,if she takes an open boat class maybe she can give you a few pointers .
Also glad to hear you are going to CANOE school this year, year before last it was just your crew and me,last year it was just me and I spent most my time waiting for tow trucks(thanks to Ken's Towing for getting my truck and me home). The N.W. Chapter provided some excellent late night campfire entertainment, however I chose not to join the self portrait festivities as I was'nt well aquainted with the owner of the camera.
I was'nt planning to go this year but it looks like that may change.Hope to see you there.
