Ocoee. Mid May. Beta and etc.
I'm planning a trip out east, and along the way, I would really like to paddle the Ocoee. I plan on being there around May 16 ish. I don't know anything about the river in terms of release, etc etc. and American whitewater only has rapid names and descriptions. Does anyone have any beta, or a friend who would go down the river with me? The date isn't set in stone, but I'm starting to plan the actual trip, and if its only released certain dates, I'd love to know now instead of when I show up. Thanks

Wish I could paddle with ya - the Ocoee is fun! But I can't go the weekends of May 12 and May 19. I can go first weekend and Memorial Day weekend!

Here's the release schedule for the Middle Ocoee...

I'd recommend picking up a copy of the Middle Ocoee Guidebook. It really won't help you make much sense of the river. You need to have someone show you the lines. It will make you more educated about what to expect in the rapids though.

The guys at endless river do great guided trips down the Ocoee . Ask for Ryan , he is a great guy and guide. If he can't, then there are a bunch of other good guides there. They are out of the nantahala gorge , but they will make the drive.

When are you coming back? Here are some of the upcoming release days, and the times you could actually put onto the water. Middle Ocoee is 4 1/2 miles. On some of these days, the Upper is running too, and it is fun to do them both on the same day.
