A Story of the Olympic Movement

Post by knu2xs » Sat Apr 21, 2012 11:10 pm

Many of you know, but for those who do not, I grew up in Springfield, MO and learning how to paddle with many of the members of this club. Dale Barton fished me out of the bottom of Surfing Rapid on the PIney more times than I can count as I learned how to surf.

Now I live in Charlotte, NC. For almost 10 years now, I have put a pretty large focus on slalom racing. Although I am not as zealous as a couple of years ago, I still paddle my slalom boat more often than not, still getting in easily over 150 days a year. Additionally I also coach athletes who are in town and want assistance and support.

As part of this, I frequently open up my house to visiting athletes in town. It was really an enjoyable experience this past weekend for one of these athletes to surprise everybody, including himself, by earning the right to represent Canada this coming summer in London.

I put together a short story about this and posted it on a website I maintain, Performance Paddlesport, if you are interested.
