New paddler to Arkansas

Post by crutlen4 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:52 pm

Hi All,

I wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am a new ACC member, and I recently moved to Little Rock a couple months ago.

I'm signed up for whitewater school, so hopefully I will get to meet a bunch of you folks then. But in the mean time, I am always looking for someone to paddle with! I'm comfortable in class II-class III, and have a forester with plenty of room for my canoe and at least one more boat.

Christine

Welcome to the ACC. Being located in LR you'll be able to make a lot of day trips. Just keep an eye on the message board and watch for trips being posted. If you need more details or have questions about a certain trip just post a reply.

You will meet a lot of great people at WW school.

Hi Christine, and welome to the board! It's nice to have another LR paddler around. We have a couple semi-local runs being Norrel spillway, Rock creek, and a couple further out. I have been venturing into hot springs since I stay pretty busy and usually have to boat as local as I can alot of the time. In HS, you have HS creek, gulpha gorge, and some great waterfalls scattered here and there to chase. There is also Rockport in the summer, and the UALR pool sessions which are on wed. nights from 6-8 (usually), and Saturdays from 2-5 ( again, usually). The pool sessions shut down in the summer for awhile, but start up again in fall.
Hope to see you on a river soon,
Joe Tarver

Uh . . . JT . . . you didn't mention the Buffalo . . .
Christine, my Forester is a 2002. I will die before it does. :myday"
What year is yours?

And now for the really critical questions . . .
Do you kayak :kayak: :NoNo: or canoe? :canoe:
Do you use straps  or ropes? :yahoo:

Hi All,

Thanks for your welcomes to the ACC. Good to hear that there are plenty of options around Little Rock.

Richard, I have a 2010...I'm hopefully I'll outlast the car.

I canoe an outrage, and I use straps :canoe:

I think you will find joining the ACC is one of the best moves you ever made. It certainly was for me.
During the rainy season we have water to meet anyone's desire. Most whitewater in the state is rain dependent and drops out fairly fast so you need to be flexible. For white water keep an eye on the "General Discussion" message board. If you want something more laid back, the "Recreational" page is the place to meet up with like minded paddlers.
Here is a website you will find handy when we get rain.

hello everyone. my name is bill. i am happy to be an ACC new member. my wife & i are looking for some float buddies "canoe", for now. i am looking between the days of may 3,4,5,6 2012.
this will ve my wife & daughters first time. after doing some research i have chosen the little red river but river choices are open as well. our schedule is open between those days. i am a river boat captain so i usually have 10-14 days off after every hitch.
thanks again. Bill
