Two Cedar-Strip Wee Lassie Canoes

Post by woodystrack » Thu Mar 08, 2012 4:31 pm

A group of my family & friends are building two wood-strip one-man canoes right now and plan to be done by the end of April.
We're donating them to our alma mater, St. Joseph School in Conway, AR.
One is to be raffled off and the other is to be auctioned live at their 100th ANNUAL school bazaar during the first weekend of August this year!

Check out my blog i've started so that people can view the building process and keep up with their progress.

Thanks for your interest,

We will be selling tickets closer to around the beginning of July i think.
100's of St. Joseph alumni members and people associated with St. Joe school or church will have tickets on hand to sell to whomever they can. So, if you know someone as described above ask them and they should be able to get sell some to you...
Also, on the day before and the day of the bazaar, (August 3rd & 4th), a booth will be set up outside the cafeteria selling tickets to the public. Located on the corner of College Ave, and Front St. in Conway.

We're getting a head start on the canoes so we can start getting the word out soon, and they won't have the tickets printed & ready to sell until middle of the summer. (I'll keep you all posted on that).

Thanks

Thanks Lucas, I'll call Tom Nabholz and have him get me a handfull when they are available. You guys are welcome to come look at mine here in Conway anytime to maybe get some new "old" design ideas any time.

Sounds good, Wes!
Yeah, we are building these two just down the road from him.

I'd love to come check out your canoe(s) sometime.

Thanks

Gents,

please post a way for those of us living outside the Central AR area so we can send in our ticket money. Keep us in the loop!

Sounds like a great cause and I have wanted one of these canoes all my life.

That is such an awesome project and way to give back to your community! If you'd sell them by mail or have a way to partiicpate on-line, I'd buy some chances to own one of those boats.

Out-of-town Gents,
I will try to find out from the people in charge of ticket sales if there is a way we can get tickets to you peeps who don't live in Central Arkansas.

I'll get back to ya'll when i find out the scoop.

Thanks,

woody, looking at your photos makes me want to buy tickets.

please be sure to set up a ticket by mail process for those of us living a long way from Little Rock.

beautiful craftsmanship on the canoe!!!!!

Never had one of these boats but some years ago did talk to a local who built a kayak using similar technique. He told me they were a lot stronger than most thought. He was paddling his ultra light weight boat over in NW AR, even on runs like the Mulberry with plenty of rocks and gravel bars.

There's an update on the Wee Lassie Canoes!
Check out my blog for images of the process.
We're almost finished with them, and i'll post pics of the finish products when that time comes.
Also, still checking on getting raffle tickets printed off very soon so that we can mail them out to those wanting to purchase a chance to win one of these bad boys!
