Cool boating quote

Post by lakekayaker » Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:30 am

Anyone know what this quote is from and who said it: "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing- absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

Thanks Dan - yes, that is correct and very fast. It's from the Wind in the Willows, published in 1908.

Dan,

I was just informed you were right on the book, wrong on the character. I also thought it was Mr. Toad. Here is the full quote, showing the character:

It's the ONLY thing,' said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. `Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING--absolute nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing,' he went on dreamily: `messing--about--in--boats; messing---
