Never been in this one but they used to have races around here. Think I might try to rekindle my youth and head up that way. I think I have a boat I can use but anybody out there still have a race boat they would rent or let borrow for the weekend?

Lots of Arkies have been and taken home some high finishes! ! Problem is you seem to have water at the same time as the races...if there is any water...

I was there last year & paddled the river with some buddies that weekend just to check out the atmosphere (didn't participate in the races). It was a ton of fun and I would highly recommend participating if that's your thing.

I'm not sure if I am considered MO or AR...or neither now. Growing up in Springfield, we headed up there quite a bit while I was in high school in the 90's. This is what slalom racing is supposed to be about, having fun on the water!

The real reason I started paddling slalom nine years ago now was to improve my technique. It has done that in spades. If you get the opportunity to dink around in gates, it has the potential to dramatically improve your technique. There is a reason why the Green Race has, more often then not been won by paddlers with current or past slalom experience since I have been attending in the last few years. Slalom hones your ability to make precision moves. It does it without class five consequences so when you do paddle harder whitewater, you already have the precision skills and technique necessary.

So go and remember to have fun!

Any non-Irish people interested in going with? gonna head up there on that Friday. I can take my enclosed trailer if there's more then two of us. That way all the gear isn't cramped in the truck.

while slolam gives u great skills i do not believe it gives u the skill for class 5 read whitewater philosophy by doug ammons while i dont agree with doug on some of his ideas i hold about 90% of them to heart he talks about slolam and and the transfer to class 5

Figured all the pro Irish folks would be indulging in green beer and not be interested in paddling that day

There will be Irish people there.
The start is just below the usual put-in at the Pavilion and the finish line is below Big Drop. The River is low now but rain is expected this week.

Doug - you still headed up there? Looks like the level will be good all weekend. I want to boat but not race.
