NWA January Meeting 1/30/2012

Post by paddledog » Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:08 am

In years past, the NWA chapter has thrown a "Pizza Party" every January to encourage members to return and bring new paddlers into the chapter. We have recently moved our usual monthly meetings to a BBQ restaurant that logistically doesn't present it's self with the same flexibility to feed the group as before. In the interest of something new, the vote at the last meeting was to hold a party at a private residence.
After several different proposals, the format now stands like this.
Instead of the regular monthly meeting at the BBQ restaurant, we will hold a party/meeting at my house for all NWA members and guests on January 30, 2012. Current members are invited to attend and to bring new and potential members to dinner and a movie. This will allow us to show potential members who we are and what we do. This meeting is for the express reason of getting current members back into the active side of the club and to increase memberships in general.
In conjunction with this is a push to have a larger more public gathering later in the spring when the weather will be milder and more conducive to outdoor activities. This gathering will be more oriented to getting those in the public who have never heard of our group but have always wanted to "try kayaking, canoeing and such".

Getting back to the party meeting later this month, we have had the services of locally famous BBQ cooks offer their skills to cook for us. We were thinking a few pork shoulders and some chickens. This would be complemented with some traditional sides, Pot sal, benz, and the like....
As for amenities at the house, I have plenty of room for what we need. There is almost an acre in front of the house for camping and or games (weather dependent.) If we move the rafts, there is a heated double garage for indoor games, washers and the like. I have the smoker needed. Horse shoe pits are here but no lights, daytime only. We have the projection room for watching videos. There are several guest rooms with double beds and a bunk room that will sleep 7 or more if someone wanted or needed to stay.

We need the local movie makers to bring their best whitewater videos from the last year for the group to enjoy. I can put almost any format through the projector. Contact me if you have any questions about that.

These are a the things we have talked about and have been suggested. If you have any further input or suggestions post back here.

I'll be there for sure and look forward to it. Someone needs to bring a set of glowing bocce balls, that is a good evening game.

Here is a map:

GPS cords. +36° 3' 42.88", -94° 16' 55.53"

I will have some sort of a sign out.
The best way to do parking here is to pull
down to the house with your "supplies", cooler and such,
then follow the signs back to the parking area.
Responsible adults are welcome to bring their own adult beverages.
I know that cuts most of us out but......

Bring a friend that you would like to have join the club.
That is the reason for the season ya know.

Wake the neighbors and alert the kids,
Everything is ready to begin.
See everyone soon.

Great party. AND another great BBQ cook named Steve on the grill. and Roy, the beans were great. You really have the recipie and method down to a science. I went back for seconds and I normally do not like beans or peppers.

To the Runnels - Please give Ponca and Jasper another pet for me and thanks for hosting the NW Chapter. Y'all did great and have a wonderful place. I felt guilty for not staying to help put out the fire, but needed to get back. Thanks for risking the fire. It was nice and I noticed all the other kids liked it too.

I know a lot of other folks helped to make it a great party and that is part of why we have a great chapter - everybody always pitches in when we do things. and no, I did not over use the word great.

That was a great party!! And a really impressive turnout for a Monday night.. I counted at least 40 folks. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, we need more of this! Also thanks to our "visiting dignitary" for taking the time to come out and tell us of our roots :D
