GeoTrashing on Cadron – TRIP REPORT (SUNDAY 1/22/12)
I’d like to get a general idea of how many might be interested and available to help with a clean up on Cadron Creek.
On our 1/14/12 run of Cadron, I marked the location of many larger items of trash that don’t really belong in the river. I’m sure I missed some, but my count has it at least 28 items, including many tires. Included in that group are a small slot machine, part of a washing machine, a metal deck chair, a child’s bicycle, the door from a plastic porta john that washed out of CCO several years ago, and two wrecked canoes. One is aluminum and will not float; the other is ABS and a “might float”.
This is about an 8.5 mile stretch of river. Even I am not convinced we can get everything in a single day, unless we get a much larger than expected turnout, but we sure can make a dent in it! If only a few can make it, we might choose a shorter stretch.
Who might be able to make it Saturday, 1/21/12? Forecast is sunny and low to mid 50's. Level will be low but floatable, which is ideal for clean-up type activities.
What could you bring to the party? (hey, if you can bring yourself, that’s enough!)
If it makes a difference, I'll be buying the first round of appetizers and/or refreshments at Old Chicago afterwards.
Oh yeah, I did say GeoTrashing, so here’s places to find some of the “good” stuff:

Maybe. What time? I can't paddle a canoe but Gary might. I will check with him.
I may come just to paddle but if he can he has the rendezvous he could paddle.

I am interested and available to join. I will bring a tandem canoe to assist with hauling stuff. If needed, I can borrow a flatbed trailer to help haul the stuff away at the end of the day.

Sounds like several are in.
When I posted, the forecast for Saturday was Sunny with a high of 53.
They are now calling for 20% chance of rain with a high of 49. I know that is not too cold to paddle, but I feel we will get more done if we can go when conditions are a little closer to optimum
How many of you will I lose if I shift to SUNDAY, mostly sunny with a high of 58? And will I gain any new players?

I could "maybe" make it Sunday, just to pick up litter around put in & take out (Hwy 65 & Hwy 285). Don't think I'm much help with the bigger stuff in my XP10. And I DON'T do canoes!
I can bring highway dept trash bags and if anyone wants one, I have orange safety vests.

Good Idea, Jan!
I won't be able to check the board again until this evening, but here are some random thoughts:
1) Yes, I think that flatbed trailer would prove useful!
2) Jan, depending on what time you could start, there is no reason for you to not join us on the river too. (maybe 9 AM for road cleaning, 10 AM for downriver crew???) Kayakers could help load the canoes, chase smaller items (and throw them in a passing canoe), or just enjoy the float, watch the show, and provide moral support on the river.
3) As of Thursday, 6 AM, weather forecast holding; Sunday will be at least 10 degrees warmer than Saturday, with more sunshine.
4) Water level is 2.4 and dropping. It will be borderline, but adequate for what we're wanting to do.

I have a conflict on Sunday and would not be able to join if it is moved to Sunday.
