North Fork of the Illinois Bayou? Anybody floated it?

Post by jphif » Tue Dec 27, 2011 4:23 pm

So, I've floated the bayou several times.... From Snow Creek to Hector and Hector to Scottsville, but i've never floated the North Fork.
Has anyone out there done the North Fork from the Dry Creek put-in down? I know it involves a considerable amount of driving, but I am very interested in trying it out.

Thanks,
Josh

Been done and it's on FishMON's OWP page:

Doesn't get run much if at all anymore.

I've boated theNFIB from FR 1000 down to the main Bayou in days gone by. 6.5 ft. is as low as I've gone down, try 7 ft + as a better option. Beautiful stretch of river with some humbling strainers. The OWP documents the headwaters above FR 1000. This is what Mulberry and Piney were 30+ years ago. Consider this section II-II+ with even higher respect for the strainers. If you like an adventure on a nice seldom run creek, try it. Should be good for a couple more days. The MFIB above Snow Creek at Nogo offers even more with a few portages, but not the tree runs and rough strainers. I've never run the EFIB. Would like to hear the beta on that one if anyone knows. Good luck.....Nogo shold be a go tomorrow too.

I did a small section above victor road and there were way too many strainers for it to be enjoyable.
